If and when Sony is able to manufacture a larger capacity UMD, will the PSP be able to support it?
Has Sony ever said anything about larger capacity UMDs? +

Yes that is true. But not all the time. Gran Turismo for the PS1 came in 2 discs, one for Simulation and one for Arcade mode. Not the case today with Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 because they were able to fit it all in a DVD. Maybe games with 2 seperate modes might force game developers to split their games into 2 seperate UMD's.
It would be good for UMD movies, one side for special features and the other side for the movie. More space could be allocated for each, therefore higher bitrates, and overall higher quality movies.
Same for audio!

that sounds like a awesome idea. but the fact is i really dont care about the size of the imd after all the ps3 is going to make the psp into a wireless remote control and screen so i can play ps3 games on my psp sweeeeet!!!1

Having a dual sided UMD would be like shooting yourself in the foot. I'd much rather have a dual layer UMD. Being about to get around 3.4 or 3.5 GB out of a UMD means we could get massive RPGs for the PSP. Also, rigurat, it won't be 3.6GB. Just look at DVDs, the single is 4.7 and the dual is around 8.5GB and not the 9GB you'd think it would be.

UMD IS DUAL LAYER!
How many times to we have to post this?
How do you post in forums if you cant read?

well the problem is the laser reader on the psp is designed to read the data on the disc=umd. The laser reads the dics by the grooves in it but the problem is you would need to compress those grooves more for larger capacity and change the reader of psp to be more fine in reading those compressed grooves get what i mean?

How do you know the UMD is dual-layer? Gamecube games are about 1.8gb as well and they are regular mini-dvds.

PSP UMDs already are dual layered

Why would we need larger sized UMDs? The games for psp now don't even use most of the space on the disk right
+
the game developers probably could make the games a lot better like i mean better sound better graffixs etc.

Yes but at the moment, the largest games on teh PSP are no bigger than 100 mb, seriously i saw it on a website once.
so there is no need to even be discusing this, the thing SONY need to improve are the loading times and battery life. Oh and btw, seeing as current PSP games are less than 100mb (usually) , the PS1 download games will be far less.

GTA San Andreas used up the whole DVD (4.9GB i think)...so if you ever want to see a PSP San Andreas then we would need to step up the disk size.
But then again, The PSP probably wouldn't play 4 layer and 8 layer UMD's....so it would be hard considering the UMD's are already Dual Layered.
As for the Next PSP playing Blue-Ray that probably won't happen..maby PSP3. cause there is no such thing as Blue-Ray UMD's and yeah...it would probably be hard to make or some reason.
