Having just joined I hope the experts on here can cut me some slack...
I would be very grateful if someone could help me sort out the errors I keep getting when trying to connect over my home network. Yes I have read through the forums (I am not that lazy :-)
Ok here goes:
1Having manually checked and rechecked my WEP key - it is entered correctly.
2Once I get to the address settings if I go for the EASY option I appear to get a connection but then when the device tries to obtain my IP address it times out and states "a connection error has occurred".
3After reading the posts I went into my network settings on my PC and checked the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Router and Primary DNS settings. I then entered this into the network settings manually. This time all appears to go well and I get a connection on Channel 11 (for some reason it reports a signal strength of 1% when I am next to the router but it still fails to connect to the internet. Either there is a message that communcation with the server failed (8041040F) when you try to open a browser on testing the connection. Failing that if you don't open the browser the connection also fails.
I am using a netgear DG834GT with Windows XP.
Sorry about war and peace above but I thought I better write the problem out in full.
No doubt I am being a complete clutz, but is there anyone who can give me an idiots guide to sorting out this mess.
Thanks Jase
