Okay... I am working on moving my DVD collection to PSP Video format...

This means ripping DVD to my harddrive.

I have been using DVD Shrink as this recommended to me.

Likewise I heard about DVD decrypter.

Now on the surface, both look good. I just rip it to my hard drive, find the VOB file that is the episode I want, and then coonvert it with something like PSP Video 9.

What I want to know is from the experts and/or the experienced. Which is better to rip DVDs with?

DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter?

Disclaimer: Of course using any program that negates copyright protection is illegal. So this is only referring to DVD's that have none and are permitted to be ripped for personal backup. Ripping any copy protected DVD is illegal.

dvd shrink is cool because you can set the start and end points of your file with a preview, and you can splice video, but it skips too many frames to work as a real video editor. Also, if you go back to your reauthored dvd to make further refinements, the audio starts to get out of sync. I would go with dvd decrypter

I used DVD Shrink and turned off file spliting and it looks great to me....

I guess I should do a test just to be sure there is no quality issues.

I like to use CloneDVDmobile by Slysoft for all my encoding purposes. So far I've created two collections of movies:

If you're interested in the PSD's for them, let me know.

While I use both DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter... I would use CucuSoft's DVD to iPod Converter... CucuSoft converts straight from the DVD to a MP4 file... and if you can't figure out how to view the movie on the PSP then you can use PSP Video 9 afterwards to get the file renamed.

Technically, you can seek help from some freeware and shareware available that can help to solve your problem to copy a protected DVD.

DVD43

You can try out DVD43. DVD43 is a free decrypter or CSS encryption breaking program that can help you to duplicate copy-protected DVDs. i have used it to copy DVD movies and it works well. The installation program is pretty simple: just run the setup file and leave the shortcut icon on your task bar. This program will run in the background and decrypt movies on the fly. When you want to use it, you just insert the DVD which you want to copy and wait for DVD43 to detect it. After that you can start duplicating the DVD with your DVD copy software.

DVD Shrink is a useful program to back up DVD discs. This freeware can also be used in conjunction with a DVD burning software such as Nero to make copies of the DVD video disc. This software supports Windows 9x/2000/XP. DVD Shrink operates in quite a similar way to DVD43 and other decrypter programs.
