Capdase is slowly building a reputation as an innovative accessory manufacturer. The company's latest addition, the Soft Jacket, is a rubberized PSP suit with the unlikely addition of a hard UMD cover and front screen cover. Unfortunately, execution leaves the unique case lacking.
The package includes the Soft Jacket and the UMD cover and front screen cover. There are gaps left open for shoulder buttons, D-pad, action buttons, speakers, power switch, power port, WiFi switch and lanyard loop. The UMD door is permanently attached to the Soft Jacket while the front screen cover comes off easily. Also, there is a small Capdase logo just below the X button in white on our black Soft Jacket.
The jacket itself is made of a good material, no funny smells as with some other PSP jackets. D-pad, shoulder buttons and analog stick are quite functional and unrestricted. The bottom row of function buttons are covered but the jacket outlines their placement so using these keys is not a problem (pic 5). Although you will lose the lettering and icons so you will have to remember what/where they are.
Unfortunately, a few millimeters of the right edge of the Soft Jacket sit on the Square button. Furthermore, the top part of the jacket just above the screen bulges out a little bit. These two issues are very minimal but look a little sloppy. Also, we couldn't get the UMD cover to stay still for more than a few seconds. It's great to know that the cover is "unbreakable" but it keeps popping open all the time. It get's annoying having to keep it closed with your fingers when gaming. The front screen cover is even worse, we could barely even get it to stay on and eventually just gave up.
The unwieldy screen cover isn't usable and the UMD cover isn't much better. It's a shame because the skin itself is quite good and will keep your PSP protected from bumps and scratches. The Capdase Soft Jacket is a decent attempt at an innovative soft case but it falls flat.

Sounds like some quality control issues. Mine had a scratched screen protector but the buttons were completely accessible and I had no problem with the screen protector staying on and only minimal issues with the UMD cover.
Quality control is a no big deal when you can go exchange the case at your local Target store but this case is currently only available from Playasia.com. Shipping costs and time for exchanges can be a factor.
They are currently exchanging my case because of the screen protector scratches. I will post my impressions on the new case and customer service when it comes.
