Summary: Good but expensive

UMD storage is one of the most overlooked areas of PSP accessories. There are plenty of PSP cases, movies and games, but few companies have come out with ways to store our discs, especially in North America. Interestingly, there are a decent number of cases being manufactured in Asia. The most innovative of these is the Deluxe UMD Protective Case made by Hong Kong manufacturer, Capdase.

The Capdase Deluxe UMD Protective Case is a stackable UMD holder capable of storing two UMD's or one UMD and two Memory Stick PRO Duo cards. In the package is the holder itself and a removable rubber pad that can hold two Memory Sticks at the expense of a UMD slot. You can get the case in a black or white version.

To open and close the case, you simply push one end down and the 3 panels fan out (pic 2). UMD's fit very snug with minimal wiggle when closed. This tightly closed design ensures that your discs don't get dirty with dust and other particles. The case does come with a set of stickers which you can place on the side, making it easier to find your games. Getting your discs or Memory Sticks out is easy and there aren't really any flaws with the features.

The only problem has to do with the price. One of the strongest selling points is that you can stack the cases. Yet for $6 USD you only get one case, requiring you to either buy another case or go without the stackability feature. Twelve dollars is a lot to pay for storage of 4 UMD's. The case material isn't particularly of exceptional quality, so it's most likely the unique design that keeps the price high.

The ability to stack multiple cases is a unique concept that allows you to store your collection of discs in a compact and tight case. With enough of these you could have a cool looking UMD tower, but at a costly price. There are much cheaper UMD cases, but nothing as innovative as this. The Capdase Deluxe UMD Protective Case works well, but is expensive.
