The Logitech Playgear Mod is a pair of headphones with a modular earstrap system. Already synonymous with high-quality accessories, Logitech's latest addition is lightweight and has superior audio quality that will make a great addition to your gaming setup.

Inside the package are the Mod headphones, a replacement pair of black earpads and a modular ear ring that can be exchanged with the default setup. Staying consistent with Logitech's other lineup of PSP gear, Mod has a polished black surface that matches the PSP perfectly. Everything is black except for the rubbery ear rings and silver logo. The rubber ear rings can be easily taken off and then either replaced with the other set or left off altogether. This will allow you to use the headphones in the traditional style where the top of the headphone rests on the top of your head, rather than the new back-head style that is popular these days. Finally, the plug that goes into the PSP is a near 90 degree angle type, rather than a straight plug that some headphones use.

The headphones are not expandable, so if you have a particularly large head, you will only be able to make use of the unit in the back-head style. This is mostly fine, the ear rings are fairly comfortable, but depending on how tight you put them onto your ears, you might get a little sore after extended sessions with the PSP. That's simply the price you pay for stylish headphoning.

The sound quality is second to none. Separation between bass, treble and mid range is clear and very detailed. Bass, traditionally the achilles heel of any economy-priced headphone is leaps and bounds above the competition, but it isn't flawless. 'Booming' bass (ie, souped-up car bass) is present but slightly subdued, whereas bass that might come from a bass drum is actually full. At no point is there distortion or crackling, regardless of the volume level.

The Logitech PlayGear Mod gives you the quality of sound that you expect when you buy a pair of headphones. If you've been using a cheaper pair, then prepare to hear sounds that you haven't heard before. There's no tinny sound here, just exceptional sound clarity and quality in a stylish and thoughtfully designed package. At $30 retail, they're not cheap headphones, but are only a few dollars more expensive than lesser earbuds. If you're after quality, look no further.

Those look cool. I do like the retractable ear buds for the simple fact that they are small and easy to travel with. How good is the outside sound isolation on these?

They aren't the most compact things, but for the sound quality I personally think they're worth the tradeoff. As for outside sound isolation, they won't win any awards, but you shouldn't hear much once you've got music on.

Looks good but since I wear glasses I'll just stick to my Fontopia's.

It looks very cool. But I prefer my Apple in-ear buds, or my Sony MDR-V300
