After being disappointed with the performance of the Value Pack headphones, I knew I would have to buy new ones. After all, great sounding music was the second reason I bought the PSP (just after great games ). Some research led me to these beauties, successor to the highly acclaimed EX71 model. Sony has them in 2 colours: Black and White and for obvious reasons I chose white.
First look at their HIGH quality:
Sensitivity: 100dB/mW
Impedance: 16 ohms
Frequency Response: 5 - 23,000Hz
Type: Closed, Dynamic
Driver Unit: 9mm
Diaphragm: PET
Magnet: Neodymium (400kJ/m3)
Cord: OFC neckchain, 1.2m
Plug: L shaped stereo mini plug (Gold)
Closed type earphones and low starting frequency response (5Hz) equals deep bass sound
Special high power neodymium magnet is used to reproduce clear treble sound and again - powerful bass
Soft silicone rubber earbuds guarantee comfortable fit in ears
Unique, aluminum shaft
First of all, they're of course fully compatible with the PSP remote controller. The only 3 faults I found are: L-shaped plug (straight would be better), and the cord is a little too long when used with the remote. Also, it'd be great if Sony could add a nice carrying case. Perhaps a soft carrying case replaced by casual plastic "egg" to roll up cord and hide buds underneath. Sadly it doesn't match great quality of headphones. Besides that they're KILLER in design and sound quality!
Great addition found in the package are the 3 pairs (!!) of silicone earbuds of different sizes: small, medium and large. You can choose your own size and change them easily yourself, for the best performance and pleasure of use. They ideally fit right in your ear-hole and completely cut out all outside noises (it is suggested to somehow check this feature before buying, this may be uncomfortable for some people).
Sony eliminated the headband and added great ear-wraps. Beside earbuds themselves sitting firmly in our ears, now we're even more protected from phones accidentally falling out - there is NO such possibility. Great ear-wraps keep them in place, even when jogging. They're made of a flexible, hard, rubber - even after hours of use, you don't feel you're wearing anything on ears, just inside
On the audio end, they're pure heaven -- deep, crisp and crystal-clear. Treble can sometimes be too clear, sometimes too sharp (depends on the music) - pity that PSP has no graphical equalizer, but at least we have some preset audio settings at our disposal. HIGHLY recommended - they cost me A LOT (cost of one PSP game), but are well worth it.

so why white... you said obviously... but i dont like any of this white BS that came w/ the psp. = ]
+
Yeah, I know - many people think it's gay, etc... It's just the matter of personal taste. Besides - white remote with black headphones ? This is BS...
+
it's all personal preference. I think they had to make the PSP black as that's the colour of the PS2 but with the headfones and other stuff they wanted to give an ipod view of their items, hense the white. It's all marketing crap and has nothing to do with whether it looks cool or not.
+
Marketing crap is all about what looks cool or not. Face it... if you spent $250 on your PSP, you want people to know it by the color of your headphones. White Headphones = ipod = expensive personal gadget. Black headphones = sony walkman = 1980s technology.
White headphones are now a must have for expensive portables, and we have Apple to thank.

How about "clear" headphones ...like the shure E2C's ? Where do they fit in?..
+
god they're f'in headphones who cares what color is gay or not

I am interested in new headphones and these sound pretty good. I would be interested to know how they stack up compared to the Logitech Playgear or whatever they are called. Those things can be found for about $15 online and they have many of the same features. Anyone with experience with both, please speak up! =-)

Just like Grzesiek said, not everyone is going to find these canal earphones comfortable. I bought one of these myself. Great sound & bass w/o hearing any outside noises. It's really inside your ear (or in anatomy, external auditory meatus) and it was really uncomfortable for me. So try before you buy (hopefully u know someone who has one, or buy it from Target or Best Buy or something and return it if u don't like it.)

I own these, I purchased them from audiocubes.com before they were released here in the states, I love them and would not part with them. I purchased them for my iPOD but now I use them mostly with my PSP. If they were pink they'd be gay, since their white their Metro sexual.

if you find the cord length and plug shape to be faults, then you should have gotten the EX81SL (or EX71SL) which is short cord (0.5 m) and straight plug.
Perfect for remote!edited: May 11 2005

these headphones are the shhhhhhhnite I have them and your ears never get sore after hours of use

Personally I could care less what color they are, I do a lot of flying on militaryh aircraft and they don't have much in the way of noise cancellation. I'm looking for a good somewhat cheap set of noise reducing headphones, any suggestions? I tried the included earbuds and another pair of my personal headphones and could barely hear my UMD movie. Thx

If I had choice, I surely would - but I hadn't. You wouldn't believe how hard is to find any Sony EXx1 in good price in Poland, not paying a little fortune. I bought these on local auction - exchanging for $$ I gave 60$ for them... But IMO they're well worth the price.
