| Summary: Probably best to go with MVP: 989's rep is proven to have been earned by this title
70
As playable as this game is, 989's first baseball title (as well as the PSP's first title for the sport) is further proof of the companies's bad reputation being well-earned. While the controls are good, the sounds are acceptable, and the commentators actually can go for ten minutes before showing their limited vocabulary (versus every other sport game running their comments into the dirt in SECONDS), the graphics just...
The game looks rushed, and at times I found the animations and character movements to be robotic. The home run clips of the character moving to run then - within a nanosecond in time - switches to the character JOGGING, just doesn't look right. And when the ball goes over a fence and suddenly you can see where the ball bouned against the fence as it is rebounding in the dugout, through a fence that should be at least one and a half feet THICK, I get irritated.
The game is full of options, and is customizable to an insane degree. But, even with all of the options available, the game just seems like it would have been better to go buy a used GBA baseball game for less and get the same.
Don't get me wrong: MLB is a decent game. But it just doesn't live up to what a polished PSP baseball game should have been. As it is, it is just a step above what a DS release would have been. Not exactly a good thing for a system that is "superior" to an "inferior" system.

As a gaming nOOb of sorts, I like it overall. I am disappointed in the lag when playing others online though. I don't get how a game like ATV can have so much action, and four players, and no lag? This game is only really lacking in the fun department by that issue.
It takes some time to get the running/throwing down, but it's worth the money in the end.

I disagree with the reviewer and the other "review" that slams the game. If you really want an accurate review of this game go to gamespot or IGN. Both of those sites give this game very good reviews and I agree.
The game is as fluid and realistic as you can expect on a handheld. The sound and commentary are great and the stadium detail is phenomenal.
I have this game for PSP and MVP for the PC. Both are great games but I'd take this one and the extra $10. Sony created a very enjoyable baseball game and doesn't jack up thier prices lke EA does.

FYI: Gamespot ratings:
MLB 8.0
MVP 7.7
