| Summary: Bigger is Better
91
When I first took the Logitech Playgear Pocket out of it's hard security packaging and held it my hands, my first thought is "Wow this thing really is as big as everyone says it is." But after placing my PSP into it's new hard shelled home i was incredibley pleased. Not only does the case leave all the proper openings so it can be used for music but it closes securely and looks good doing it.
Protection
The case being made of a hard polycarbonite plastic makes you feel safe carrying your PSP around with you more often. The only things this case can't protect your PSP from is water and dust. The case does scratch and even after my first day of having it, I was sad to see one large scratch down the back of it after sliding it into the glove compartment of my car. But better the case then the PSP right?
Versatility
The case can also be used as a stand for watching movies as the back lid folds back to hold the PSP up at a perfect angle. This is perfect for those of you out there that want to buy UMD movies or watch your favorite TV episodes off the memory stick. I personally have yet to find myself watching many programs on the PSP but that may be due to the fact that I have a huge entertainment setup and rarely leave the house with my PSP. The case also gives you the ability to modify it. Due to it's removeable rubber insides you can create personalized inserts so that your Logitech case is easily distiguished from the other boys and girls on the block. Be careful though, just as the PSP is a magnet for dust so is this case. Once you remove the rubber backing you may find it hard to ever get your case free of dust from between the rubber. Finally, and my favorite part, you can easily listen to music while your PSP is comfortably locked away inside. This is due to the fact that all the nessesary ports are kept open by cut outs in te case. Since i don't own any portable music devices, I use my PSP for all my music needs. My favorite use for it is in my car. No longer do i need to create mix CD's or swap discs while driving. I just turn on my PSP, hook up my FM transmitter, and listen to my music over my car stereo. And thanks to the Logitech Playgear I no longer have to worry about my PSP getting all scratched up.
Downsides
The case is bulky and while this does not at all bother me I can see how some people might see this as rather annoying. If you wear tight pants or don't carry a backpack with you, you might have trouble finding a place to put this when you're on the go. I personally can fit it easily into either my pant's pockets ( i don't wear really baggy pants) or the inside pocket of my jacket. The second downside of this case is that there is no storage. I have looked at tons of cases and none seem to fit what i'm looking for yet. I would like a case with enough storage to hold some UMD's, headphones and remote, charger, and memory sticks, while staying as slim as possible. Every portable gaming device i have owned before the PSP has sold a case to meet my needs but I have yet to find a proper All-in-One case for the PSP.
Conclusion
If you want protection and a sexy sleek accessory then the Logitech Playgear Pocket is for you. If you want a slim case or storage then maybe this isn't for you.

Excellent review! But I was wondering how is the logitech playgear street going to be and how will it look like (the same as the playgear pocket but with a shoulder strap and extra compartments?)

I was wondering though, can you play the PSP with the logitech case in "movie stand" mode, on a table? If so, is it comfortable?edited: May 03 2005

Depending on the game, the Logitech is very playable in "Movie Stand Mode". If its a game like Untold Legends that requires a lot of button pushing, occasional shoulder button pushes and a light touch on the analog stick then the case rocks. It reduces a lot of strain if you have big hands. If its a game like Ridge Racer where you have a button constantly held (like the gas button) and are constantly making adjustments using the directional pad or analog stick, then the case moves a little too much. Its better held in your hands and the case is a little too bulky to do that for extended periods.

Excellent point atlas. I completely agree with you and am sorry i did not add that to my review. I found myself playing the PSP while in the case 80% of the time. I have MGA, Untold Legends, Darkstalkers, and Twisted Metal. Most often I rest the case in movie stand mode on my lap and play like that. The real enjoyment comes from when i do take the PSP out of the case to play and remember how small it is. It's nice to go back and forth because it's has a unique feel to playing. I find I do the same thing with my Logitech wireless PS2 controller and the stock controller. The both have their ups and downs.

Does the case scratch easily?

What do you mean by" I just turn on my PSP, hook up my FM transmitter, and listen to my music over my car stereo"? You have a transmitter for the psp?

An FM transmitter can be used for any device that produces music and sound. As long as it has a headphone jack then it should work.

rjsmith, the case does scratch kinda easily. I've had it now for about 2 weeks and the bottom of it has lots of scratches from me resting it on counter tops. But hey, better the case then the PSP and you can't see them as all with an insert in it. The scratches are only visiable at an angle.
Creeper27, I bought the FM transmitter from circuit city and it's made by belkin. It works wonders and can run off of either batteries or a car charger but I use the car charger since the batteries run out fairly quickly. (about 3-5 hours)
If there is a demand for it I will build my blog to show how I easily made a setup in my car.

I'm with you Willikers - I may even measure out the insides (top and bottom) of my case in Illustrator and create a line/vector template and post it. That's if I'm abitious enough to do it though. Why wait for Dacalgirl!?

Sometimes the FM transmitters dont sound as high quality sound as i would prefer it to be. An alternative to anyone who isnt as satisfied and also sounds fantastic is a device that looks exactly like a cassette tape and has the 1/8th headphone adapter connector coming out of the casette tape. Although i know some cars dont come with casette decks anymore it is a much better way and guarentee the sound will be perfect.
link
Just copy ant paste it. If it doesnt work you can check radioshacks site for it at 20$ in the car audio accessories.

rjsmith to answer your question about scratching. I saw today that I have a hairline scratch and kinda long , along the front of the case.
Kinda sucks since I dont know how I got it. But its still a hot looking case and I wouldnt get another. Ive made a few skinz already and they make the case even more kick *ss.

As far as the FM transmitter, yes sound quality isn't the best but it's not awful at all. The only problem with cassette adapter is exactly what you said, most cars dont carry cassette players anymore. I have that problem and was left with the FM transmitter. On the upside it works on anything you can get a radio signal from.
