BoxWave's FlexiSkin is an interesting product. While most methods of protection focus on entirely covering the PSP or just the screen, this accessory covers just the body of the device.
What is it?
The FlexiSkin is basically a bodysuit for the PSP. There are no seams, locks or snaps, but rather the skin can be stretched to allow you to fit the PSP in. Once you've done so, the material instantly stretches back, just like a wetsuit for scubadiving might do. In the same vein, the FlexiSkin is washable and tear-resistant.
Most ports are uncovered while most buttons remains covered. The power port, power button, open button, memory stick port, strap handle, analog stick and most of the UMD door remain open as well. Interestingly, the D-pad, action buttons and L/R shoulder buttons are covered.
In use
We're not really sure how to rate the FlexiSkin. The sales page says that you can use it while gaming, and indeed you can in some games, but the material is somewhat thick, making the D-pad and buttons require a little more pressure. This may have the unintended effect of putting your buttons through less and wear, but your finger muscles will be more sore while getting accustomed to things. Also, it isn't really possible to do a roll of the D-pad (ie, from left to right in one fluid motion), but you will instead have to press left, then down, then right. This is ok for most games, but expect to be hindered when playing fighting games or anything that requires quick use of the D-pad. Another annoyance is that the UMD door doesn't open entirely, requiring you to force it open a little to get discs in/out.
On the upside, the material feels very durable and will protect your PSP from bumps and scratches. You no longer have to worry about setting down the PSP gently. As for the analog stick, it may not look like it but it's actually very usable. There is enough space cut out to give the stick enough room to without restricting movement.
Overall
Overall, Boxwave's FlexiSkin isn't for everyone. Most people will be worried about the screen, not the body. However, if you use your PSP mostly at home, then this is a great solution since you're mainly worried about scratching up the gorgeous body. The ease with which you can put the PSP in or out makes it an ideal case if you want protection without the fuss of any locks locks while at home. Good protection for everything but the screen.
