Summary: A great release title

While I personally have not played any of the earlier Ridge Racer games and I can't comment on how well the game has evolved I can comment on my experinces with the latest release of Ridge Racers on PSP. When I decided to purchase my Sony PSP I was looking for a game to grab with it, after looking around at the release titles I decided to grab ridge racers, this was the game that most apealed to myself. I imported the game to Australia and I subsequently have got the Japanese version of this game, but as long as you have a breif idea of the general menus (which can be learnt with about 5 minutes fiddling around) the Japanses language is not much of a setback. Once racing in the game all on screen displays are in English, and in the games menus and race all commentry and voice overs are english.

The game is very easy to play and the cars steering can be controlled with either the Analog stick or the D-pad and you can switch between the two during races and not have to change anything (after being a long time d-pad user I am fiding my self switching from the analog stick to the s-pad with out noticing). Load times are impresive and sure put most current ps2, xbox and pc racing sims of comparable graphics to shame.

The game have a masive number of cars most being revisions of earlier models but with so many cars and quite a few unique tracks there is plenty of replay value and this game deffinately shows good value in this alone, the world tours is much like any other racing sim tho where you just compete in tournament after tournament and at the end of each you unlock anywhere from 1 to 6 new cars and on the odd occasion a new track.

The graphics are great but can some times show a little bit of jaggy corners but this is understadable, after all this is only a portably games console and for that it does a great job. The games sound track is also very large (with close to 50 songs from varying (tho mainly dance/techno styles) styles) and the sfx just finish of this game, which I am sure will remain a top game for quite some time, unfortunately due to lack of availablity of consoles in Australia I can not comment on network play tho.

I got RR for my first game too. I really wasn't planning on buying a PSP, but from just looking at all of those PSPs on the display glass during US launch date just made me buy it right away, along with RR.
