Well this for me has been long awaited. I am a fan of the Off-road Fury series, and was waiting for this one. I have had it on preorder for months. I wanted it bad enough I preordered a second copy for my son so i could try all the online features as soon as I got it!

Game modes

Single player mode
This mode is very close to the PS2 version (ATV Offroad Fury) The differences are great! It has more addons and unlockables than any of the other console series it follows. The mini games are playable in single or multi player modes, and items collected in single player can be used in multi player modes.

Multi Player
This is where Blazin' Trails is going leaps and bounds over its big brother console versions. You can play mini games, free roaming courses you create, or race the tracks that were pre created. You can link to your hot spot, and play anyone online and weed out who you want to play by skill level, area, or just by who you want to play against by setting up a buddy list (yes, IGNORE is an included feature). When playing with friends, you can wager cards/items collected from your single player modes. This game is deep!

Some of the bonus features include cards, minigames, and a new "credits" system. In the credits system you can use your credits to buy new items as before, but with the new addition of music videos. Not really a prioity, but fun and cool nonetheless.

Another great feature comes from the online connection. You can race against the 10 fastest racers in the world ranks!!!! Well, not really. But you race their ghosts, or your ghost if you are lucky enough to beat one and take their place!

Mini Games

Tag ball
Play a game of tag with ATVs, and a basketball. The person who has it is the only one to score points, so if you dont have the ball steal it from your opponent!

King of the hills
Jump various hills and do stunts. The person with the highest score off that hill has a tag placed on it. Steal someones already tagged hill by scoring more trick points off of it than they did! The most hills owned wins.

Hockey
The same game as in ATV3 for the PS2

Basketball
Do you really need a description????

Soccer
C'mon really?????

Graveyard Madness
Chase down and collect ghosts while racing in a graveyard. Crash or run into an opponent and lose some or all of your ghosts!

Treasure hunt
Free roam around in search of coins collect more than your opponent to win.

Beach tagger
Same as king of the hill, just in a beach setting.

Rings of fire
Race against the clock and your oppnent to get through the most rings possible (free roaming)

Bomb Dodge
Pick up bombs and hold on as long as you can! your opponents will try to take it from you the longer you hold it the more points you get. The fun part comes when the bomb is getting ready to go off, toss it at one of your oppenents to blow them up! Or in my case I usually hold on too long. No points for blowing yourself up!

Overall

To sum it all up, this is a great, fun, deep and impressive game. Never have I seen a handheld racer so deep! It has been an amazingly fun 48 hours!!!! (so far)

why is everyone so hard on the controls... are people really that inept at using the analog stick? Sure, at first it took some getting used to, but once you run around the track a few times, it is very easy. Since the career and unlockables are plenty, the controls should not be designed for the casual gamer, but for someone who is really going to put forth effort and play it awhile. I am glad it was not babied down.

in every review i've read, they've said the same thing. crappy controls, OK graphics, annoying sounds. why take a risk on this game?

Yes, YES!! It is true. I think the game looks poor compared to the PS2 version(s). On the PS2, one of the things that always impressed me was how incredible smooth the motions were, making it look and feel so realistic. But on the PSP, it feels like you're watching one of those little cartoons in the corner of a book where you flip the pages to see a cartoon ... you can see every frame! Yuck!

Ok, I have to admit this games has grown on me....

before I would have given it a 3 outta 5 cause the controls frustrated the crap outta me. Now I'd pump it up to 4 outta 5. The only thing still keeping it from a 4.5 or higher is the control. However, I've gotten used to it... the digital pad anyways. I still think it would have been better if they tweaked the sensitivity a bit more before releasing it, but it's defiantely doable if you spend the time....

However, everything else in the game is GREAT!. I do not get at all why the gaming media says the graphics are average... I think their great. This weekend I was racing on this one level (don't recall the name) where it was dusk and their was rain and lightning. The lightning FX was done fantastically and the ever have rain splatter FXs on the screen itself. I thought this was a perfect example of how good the graphics in ATV are. And I'm really enjoying how much depth this game has as far as content...

So, I haven't pulled a complete 360 on the game... I still think it could be better, but after spending significant time playing with the digital pad, the control is acceptable. I still would recommend my friend either borrow it or rent it first to be sure they can deal with the control, but once you get past that I don't she why you wouldn't like this game!

I still stand by my non-agreement of bad reviews of this game (after wasted hours this past weekend)
What I can't understand is how this game does SO well online with so much going on, and MLB sux? I can't bat without striking out because the lag is so bad! Does anyone know why?
ATV really does well online...I hope this is typical, and that MLB is a fluke.
