| Summary: Cheap protection at the cost of image quality
70
The Pelican Screen Guard is a low price, sleek alternative to protecting that beatiful PSP screen. In the retail package you will find two pelican screen protectors (thin plastic sheets with an adhesive backing that sticks to the psp screen), one credit card type applicator (used during installation to help smooth our bubbles) and 1 polish cloth (similar to the one included with every U.S. PSP value kit).
Installation is very easy, if you have ever installed a similar screen protector on a PDA or Camera LCD you will know exactly what to do. The most important item to stress is to make sure your PSP is as clean as possible and that you are working in as clean of an environment as you can. Once applied you can be confident your PSP screen can take minor abuse without worry.
So what could the downside be? Well unlike other screen protectors the Pelican Screen Guard sacrifices ease of installation for image quality. The screen protector itself is not completely clear and once applied degrades the image quality noticabley, what I can best describe as a "hatch pattern" or screen door effect to my eyes. If image quality and maximum protection is your main concern the Pelican Screen Guard is not for you, stick to a brand like Brando or Martin but if you need quick and readily available protection the Pelican Screen Guard is the only game in town.

or you can just get a hori for $5 at eb, those are cheaper and by far the clearest psp screen protector on the market, trust me i have tried 5 brands

Agreed, the hori is a much better option if you have an EB around and you can find it instock. The main advantage pelican has is distribution, you can get these in any target, walmart, best buy or game specialty store. I wish the Brando, Martin and Hori protectors were more readily available.
Article correction "Screen Guard sacrifices ease of installation for image quality" should really be "Screen Guard sacrifices image quality for ease of installation"

The Martin Fields is than the hoir one cuz it doesnt have any tabs that have to be removed. The image is flawless with the Martin one.

I read around the net and saw a lot of favorable board posts for the Pelican screen protector, even ones that claimed it didn't affect picture quality. What the hell is wrong with those people's eyes? Image distortion with this thing is just about impossible to ignore, it's like the whole screen is smeared with vaseline almost.

i kinda like that blur its like the same screen they use for the PS2 at like gamespot or somthing you know that one screen where on the ps2 it makes it blury? i dunno it makes it looks kinda cool and blurs out the jagged lines

i have the pelican screen guard on my PSP and i'm pretty satisfied with it. i've heard that the hori and martin screen protectors are the best but havent seen them around at any stores. the first ones they released were mainly pelican so i got em. my brother brought me back another one from japan but for now my pelican is doing a good job. my only gripe is that the directions were a little unclear on how to apply it and i got a good amount of lint on the lnside. it bugs me a lot when i have it turned off, but i cant see it when i play so i leave it. does anyone know if you can rinse them with water or clean them? I asked the guy at the store and he said he didnt really know but that i probably shouldnt try. they dont have adhesive so it looks like it would be ok. just wondering if anyone has tried this already with their pelican screen gaurd or is willing to try it with their extra one. (btw i gave my extra one away or i might try it myself)

oh, and the screen cover does make the image slightly dimmed and the main screen looks slightly grainy i think it is for the glare protection but i could be wrong. anyways, neither has ever really bothered me as it doesnt get that dim and i never see any graininess during gameplay. these really are great and do a good job of protecting the screen, and it comes with a extra wipe bonus
