So, after much hassling and continually searching ebgames.com and gamestop.com, I finally found a store that had one in stock. I immediately rushed out to get it and I gotta say... Wow.
The first thing you'll notice is how it looks. A LOT of "plastic" with a black inner core that says "Logitech" on it very cleanly. It's not very gaudy at all. On the back/bottom, it's the same except there's a hole in the back to show off the PSP logo. The PSP fits onto the bottom with a little bit of movement, but it settles in very well and you don't notice any movement when you're playing the PSP. The inside is lined with this, umm, black stuff that is very soft to the touch and doesn't feel capable of scratching the PSP at all. The lid closes very tightly and you can fit a cleaning cloth on top of the screen when it is closed with no problem. The first thing I did when I closed the case with the PSP in it was to shake it as violently as I could to see if I could hear a rattle. To my enjoyment, I couldn't hear a thing as I was shaking it and it felt very secure.
The lid is held in position with this plastic hinge system and it looks to be very well made and secure. It stays exactly where you open it, and it blocks the sun very well. The lid functions as a stand for the case as well, since you can move the lid a full 270 degrees around. I only tested the case as a stand for 5 minutes, but it seems to work very well and I hope to get my 1 Gig stick so I can watch some of my own movies with it.
The case has cutouts for the trigger buttons, the power button/charger port, and the WiFi button/headphone port/lanyard hole. This allows you to play the PSP while it's in the case very easily. The one problem I have noticed with this is that the case WITH the PSP is a little heavy, so some extended gaming may wear your arms down after a while. I haven't noticed any dust get on the PSP that I didn't get from my previous case, so it appears to block out the dust very well.
The ONE problem that I really have with this case (and I believe other reviews have touched on this as well) is that the button to open the case is a little tricky to work. You have to press the button and then grab on to the sides around the button to open the lid. It's not a big deal and I do enjoy that the case isn't super easy to pop open, especially since the PSP isn't going to be secured to the case with like tape or velcro or something like that.
All in all, I absolutely love this case. It's most definitely the best case you can get a store right now, and you won't be disappointed. It looks great, feels extremely durable, and I have the utmost confidence that my PSP is secure inside.
that latch issue, i solved it by holding the button down and using my other hand to adjust the back hinge and push the top fold forward a little to make it easier to open. i agree 100% though, awesome case. although one thing, you said it is a little heavy for extended play, but you can always stand it up while you play if you have a desk or table handy.
I got mine from a Gamestop. For some reason or other, not all of the stores have them in stock, but you can find out with ones do with the in0store locator function at their websites. EBGames doesn't have theirs yet; I think they're supposed to get them on Tuesday or Wednesday. But hmm, thanks for the tip, Agent808. I'll try that later today.
I have mixed feelings about the Logitech PlayGear Case. I picked mine up from Electronic Outlet in New York for $25 and my buddy got his from Gamestop for the same price. We both spent the extra $5 to get it quickly and we both picked up the last one in the store (go figure!). Anyway, my first thought was that the case is actually beautiful. What you see on the web doesn't do it justice. It's pretty damn sleek without a wasted curve anywhere. Even the inner padding for the PSP is attractive, well placed and unobtrusive. Nice!!! My 2nd opinion came from using it with my PSP on my hour-long trainride home. It delivers on everything they said it would do; as far as the top cover providing a hinge and folding it back creates a stand for the PSP. It creates a great playing angle in this "stand mode" which reduces some wrist strain. Very nice!! I only have 2 problems...
A> This thing feels HUGE in my hands (and I have big hands). I've gotten used to playing with the PSP in my hand and this feels like a brick in my palms. Even though its a little bit bigger than the PSP, it feels like twice the size. It feels like the big plastic boxes that Toys R Us uses to keep the Gameboy games in.
B> As sexy (and supposedly indestructible) as the polycarbonate is, its not SCRATCH-PROOF. Typically, I carry my PSP in my bookbag with a few books, some comic books and maybe a pen or two. In just a few hours of it sitting in my bag, I already had a number of scratches on the front cover. Better the case than the PSP but if you have a sexy case for a sexy device, you want to show it off. If the case looks like its had a run-in with Wolverine then that defeats the purpose.
The lack of memory stick or game storage is a minor thing but it would've been nice. I knew this before I bought it so I also picked up a few cans of Altoids for that... Don't get me wrong, I do like the case and for $20-25, its well worth it. Problem is that with all the hype, I expected this to be as nearly perfect as the PSP is and I was disappointed somewhat. It is the best hard case out there but part of me prefers the Intec softcase instead.
I got mine from gameexpress.com and it came in 2 days...and was only $17.45 or so plus around $5.00 shipping. Great case for the cost. And it's still easy enough to take the PSP out to change the UMD.
i went into a Electronic Boutique today and they told me that they are receiving their shipment on wednesday in canadian stores.
So i pre-ordered mine. Its $24.95 CAN before tax. I cant wait to get a hold of this...cuz i'm so paranoid of taking my psp out without a case.
I can't find this in any Gamestop or EB Games stores anywhere in my area. (Chicagoland), Nor can sales associates tell me when they'll have them in stock. It seems to be the hottest case for the PSP right now, and I know I'd like to get one for mine ASAP. (the soft case that came with is a joke).
i whent to gamestop today and they said they would get ther shipment this week wich sucks because i whant it badly becaus eits better than that stupid soft case
Great case! EB Games started receiving shipments yesterday (4/21). I had to call and have one put on hold, many had already been reserved. The front latch takes a little pressure to get open, but besides that, it's perfect. You would think that the case was designed first, then the PSP. That's how well it fits.
I just picked mine up a couple of hours ago from EBGames. Only one in the area to have it, and they only had the one I bought. I am VERY impressed with the quality, even if it does make the system a little bulky, and the L/R buttons a little harder to hit. I loved it from when I saw it, but when I got out of my car, and promptly dropped it onto my asphalt driveway (very uneven and rocky), I was sold. It didn't get a scratch, dent, anything from a 5 foot fall onto the ground. Fortunatley my PSP wasn't in it, but that convinced me over anything else.
This case is awesome. The thing that sets it apart from the other cases out there is it follows the same design as the PSP. The thing is just beautiful, I wish I had a case for the logitech case . I took some pictures of mine if anyone needs to take a closer look.
