Now this is a great product. Like always, converting Video takes patience and time. Its pretty ironic that the name of the program is Image converter but i use it mostly for converting Videos. Anyways the program has an easy to use GUI, pretty user-friendly. The program has never crashed once for me as other programs have, 3GP and especially PSP Video 9.

Heres a quote from John Koller, a Sony Product Manager, "Yes, Sonystyle.com will be selling Image Converter 2 to convert any of your photo, video or music files to compatible formats on the PSP. This software should be available shortly. "

Anyways heres the whole process I took:
1. Extracted the DVD movie to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter. You may also use Smart Ripper. Both are free.<File Size:3.5 GB>
2. Hmm files are big, gotta convert to Avi. Using Super DVD Ripper, I converted the .vob files to Avi. When you choose compression, choose Microsoft Windows Media. <File Size: 450 mb>
3. Ok now Add the newly converted Avi file to the list in Image Converter 2. And connect your PSP with a reasonably sized Memory stick. Remember to set your psp into USB mode, under settings. Image Converter will automatically convert the Avi into MP4 as it transfers it to the PSP's memory stick. <File Size: 55 mb>

55mb for a full-length movie. Now that is impressive. Although the whole process took about 4 hours. If you want to save space on your memory stick then go through this process, and get the most out of your money. Oh and Super DVD Ripper is shareware, with 9 free uses.

Conclusion: Good Software! Nice GUI! Stable Software! Oh and for you Anime lovers, logically Anime movies will be smaller than live-action movies. Reason? Well Anime is drawn at 12 FPS. NTSC movies go at 29.9997 FPS.

Converting from DVD to WMV to MP4 is both a waste of time and video detail, because you don't need to go through the WMV part of the process. That would be like converting an audio file from CD to WMA, and then converting it to MP3... Just use the IFO mode on DVD Decrypter to rip the program chains you want and then use Video9 to convert them to MP4... And you don't have to pay for it like you do with Sony's Image Converter. There are tons of FAQs and info to do this, just use Google....

I converted a few clips of different compression types and a full movie and haven't had video 9 crash on me. Maybe you tried an older version? Oh, and it was very fast to convert the video as well and the end result was very very good on the PSP screen!

But conversion programs like 3GP and pspvideo9 sometimes produce video out of sync when played on the psp. No one really knows why this sometimes happen with ffmpeg programs. Sony's Image converter always create perfect synced videos.

ffmpeg based programs currently use an atom 'patch' which fixes various values in the data stream info section of the file. Alot of these values are 'unknown' and even in the source code there are many ????? comments next to data set in the MP4 streams. This is pretty much why any ffmpeg convertor will be less than reliable as compared to a Sony produced one. If its stability and guaranteed correctly running movies on PSP then this is your best bet, other solutions just cannot be certain they are producing the correct data streams.. yet..
