I really wanted to like this game but after having bought it hastily I find myself already looking to sell it back on eBay. I am not a huge strar trek fan, but I do like it. I am a huge strategy game fan, and there just isn't much "strategy" involved. I guess with "tactical" in the title I was hoping for a little more thinking to be involved.
Graphics: (40) Nothing exciting here. It's space, some space ships, and some planets, etc. Really nothing that stood out to me except a pretty nebula in the background once in a while (that you cannot reach of course).
Sound: (45) So-so. Orchestral background music which helps, but not a whole lot else. Beeps and blips in between missions and weak laser/photon sounds while fighting. Voice acting would have really helped alot here.
Gameplay: (60) Pretty repetative. Keep circling the ship you are fighting to make sure your shields on one side don't get depleted by incoming fire. Fire lasers, wait, repeat (fire a photon once in a while). After a while, beat the mission (which is very linear despite the advertising saying that you have to make tough "Captain's" decisions) upgrade your ship to make it work better.
Story: (50) I guess I was really hoping to see the real Star Trek crew (Kirk, Spock, etc) but instead you get to play a generic crew which to me just wasn't all that exciting. Very little overall story to give this a saga feeling, just individual missions that are rather
Replay Value: (65) I didn't go in depth since I was so unhappy with this after a short time playing it. But you get to play other races and see things from their perspective on missions. Ultimately it's all the same though. Read mission, warp to location, fire, turn, fire turn... win (or lose if you didn't keep turning to spread out shield damage).
Load Times: (70) Pretty good. I didn't feel like I was waiting overly long for things to happen. Although I don't feel there is much pushing the PSP hardware for it to have to load anything amazing anyway.
Hopefully this will help someone to better make the decision to buy this game. I would recommend rent it first if you can. You might enjoy it more than I did.
