| Summary: Unoriginal and boring

There is nothing special about this game. This is just an average hack-and-slash RPG clone. The story is almost nonexistent. The load times are ridiculously long, and you have to wait everytime you leave town, or go into another area. Also, when you are accessing your inventory, you have to wait for the images of your weapons, armor, items, etc. to load again.
The graphics are the ONLY good point (but then again you have to wait for the graphics to load). Turn off the crappy music to save battery life. There's no replay value at all. There's only four different classes, and the gameplay is so lackluster, boring and repetitive that you won't want to play the game again. One major gripe I have is against the BOSSES. They are WEAK and easy to beat.
I've never bought a single item since I've begun the game. I've sold dozens of dozens of health potions. Yes there are probably over a thousand items in total, but theres about 100 variations of the same item. Also, all these variations look exactly the same, they only differ in stats (except if you modify your weapon with a stone, then the weapon will glow different colors). A little simple math and you realize that there aren't that many *different* items.
If you want mindless boring gameplay and you don't want to think about strategy, then this is the game for you. Otherwise, don't waste your money like I did.

You're not going to get sweaty palms playing this game. It's got about as much excitment as Bejewelled but that doesn't mean it's bad. It can fill a niche, either when you want a change from a racing game or got some time on your hands. It sets the bar for PSP RPG's though - pity it's a low bar. Hopefully we'll see an RPG come and mop the floor with voice acting, intelligent camera, online multi-play and a great story line. The PSP can easily handle that.

for people that played the big brother versions of this game on ps2(champions of norrath) this formula for hack n slash might be a bit old and run down. for others like me who stopped hack n slash in the days of diablo II, i find it fairly entertaining. sure, there are a lot of faults, loading times, limited selection of different looking gear, somewhat limited skill and class selection, and a few other things like easy AI bosses. all in all, if you are a critical fan of the hack n slash genre, you may heavily dislike this game. it lacks a lot compared to pc or console versions epsecially in story and voice acting. even though it sounds like i'm a UL:BOTB hater, i'm really not. i've had the game for about a week and i have a level 25 alchemist. although i wished for a straight forward sorceror class, the alchemist is pretty cool. i have low levels in all other classes but alchemist is my fav so far. i think this game is best suited for hardcore action rpg's/hack n slash gamers that really enjoy the genre or people that have never played on ever(i think these people will enjoy it the most). my advice to anyone thinking about purchasing this game is to not expect the most in depth, story driven, adventure game. instead, realize that this is the first of its kind on the psp and it does have some things that need much improvement. overall, it is enjoyable, good for short periods of play or extended. graphics are pretty sleek although i'd prefer more of an angled view. if you are thinking about getting it, just get it. i've played twisted metal, NFSU, RR, NFLstreet, UT:BOTB and i think they are all worth the money. my favorite gameplay so far would be ad hoc twisted metal against friends, although NFSU and RR are pretty damn sweet as well.
