Summary: Defective, not worth the trouble

I strongly suspect that this product has been changed since most of these reviews were written. The first one that I received was defective; either the filter was backwards, or the tabs had been mislabeled. I ended up following the directions exactly and putting it on sticky-side up. By the time I was able to actually see that it was backwards (I handled it only by the edges to prevent fingerprints), the sticky side was already covered with dust and scratched by the card I was using to remove bubbles. Applying tape would not clean the sticky side, so the filter was ruined.

Fortunately, the folks at Decalgirl.com understood the problem, and sent me out a replacement at no charge. This one was properly labeled, but that didn't change the fact that it was a very low-grade product. No matter how I applied the filter, there were always bubbles under the left edge, lower left corner, and lower right corner that were impossible to remove. I spent over an hour scraping at the bubbles with the card and reapplying the filter from every possible angle. I turned the PSP on to see how noticable the bubbles were, and found that they distorted the image along that edge. I also noticed that the supposed anti-glare benefit was pretty lacking; I could still clearly see my face reflected in the screen even in moderate lighting.

Before you disregard all of this as user error, understand that I knew exactly what I was doing before I dared to remove the first protective film on the filter. The first attempt failed because of a defect; namely, that the labels were swapped. When I got the replacement, I peeled back the first film a bit at one corner and lightly touched the very edge to make sure that it was the sticky side. It was. I aligned the filter carefully with the screen before letting it come to rest. Even so, bubbles appeared under the edges, and they could not be removed.

After finally removing the filter and throwing it away in disgust, I noticed that it had left long, thin scratches on the screen. I had pulled the edge of the filter up with tape and removed it very slowly, yet it had scratched the screen in places anyway. Fortunately these scratches are very thin, and not visible when the PSP is on.

I bought this based on the reviews I read here, and if you're thinking about doing the same, please take a moment to consider this before you place an order. You're going to pay anywhere from $6.50 to $8.00 for a flimsy piece of plastic that is nearly impossible to apply correctly. Even if the item you receive is not defective in some way, you are likely to ruin it simply by touching the wrong side of the filter or by getting dust on the sticky side while repeatedly removing and reapplying it to try and eliminate the bubbles.

I will not be buying another screen filter of any kind. If and when the faceplate screen becomes damaged enough to detract from the PSP's usefulness, I will replace the faceplate entirely. A filter seems to be far more trouble than it could possibly be worth.

I don't think any of them will completely remove the reflection of your face on the screen. That's a pipe dream.

Between $6.50 and $8.00? I payed $4.50 for a pack of 2 which came with a free cleaning cloth at Decalgirl. It's pretty simple to get all of the air bubbles out of there if you just follow the directions. Just start by putting one side down and slowly smooth the rest of it down. If there's any air bubbles, take some tape and pull up the part with air bubbles, and slowly smooth down again. Keep doing this until they are all gone. I dont know how you got scratches from it, but I'd be pretty pissed off if they scratched my screen up...

I got the same protector and has no problem at all. Guess you just had bad luck with this product. It was crystal clear and sharp like without the protector. Only complaint so far is, like other said, the surface is so smooth that you can see yourself under bright light.

mine was also mislabeled and it stuck to the wrong protective layer, so i was pretty confused... finally figured it out, got it on, just have to try to get rid of the fingerprints all around the edges :/
