First off I want to say I have played this game for about four hours so it is a partial review. For those who don't know what this game is about, it is a turn based strategy, a mix between Command&Conquer and Fire Emblem.
The graphics are very nice, bit not really the selling point for this game. Map Textures are very nicely done as well as character models. Compared to Fire Emblem on the Nintendo DS they are astonishing, and very well done for the PSPs' power.
The gameplay is very interesting so far, and I'm sure is only going to get more advanced as well as exciting while campaign missions progress. The Units are nicely varied and are very fun to expierement with different combinations of moves and strategies. Maps are very cool so far with desert, forest, snow maps. Also you can control land units, air units, and water units all with their own unique gameplay, for example submarines can sumerge thus disapper out of field of view. There is too much to list here as this game has a very good amount of depth. The controls are very easy to learn and very nicely done, no problems at all.
Sound is well done with varying explosions, different units all make differnt moving sounds, for example a tank that has treads makes the noise of treads, a truck with tires makes the noise of tires over ground, etc. Nice soundtrack as well, it might eventually get on my nerves after hours of gameplay, but thats what the old mp3 is for
It contains Multiplayer Ad-hoc, Infastructure, and one where you use one PSP and hand it off to a friend, these are all limited to two players. I have not extensively played these modes so I won't review.
This game contains a map editor plus many unlockables, Overall I am very impressed, Only thing I can see wrong with this game so far is sometimes it will lag while scanning the map(could just be my PSP). If you will excuse me I have to go play Field Commander right now because it is highly addictive.

So I played a versus game last night, it lasted 2 1/2 hours. I played the game on the infastructure mode and all I can say is that it is very, very addicting. Watch out make sure you have enough time to play when selecting a big map! You can customize the maps and modes a alot so it looks like it has some serious replayability By the way my login is GEEZUS so I hope to play some of you guys. Have fun.

Im about 5 missions in and I gotta say its OK, I would give it around an 8, good game but I'm still undecided...stay tuned for a review..

I agree Buddha. It's fun..but its a straight up copy of Advance Wars. Good game for roadtrips I give Hbdog another 15 mins before someone decides to ban him.. anybody wanna bet on it?

I'm about 8 missions in, and the game's great. Been waiting for one like this for PSP. I had nearly bought a GBA a few years back just to play Advance Wars, glad I waited for this game. I guess it's a lot to ask for, but isn't the storyline awful? Every time you beat a mission (and I do mean every), the opposing general tells you "Oh yeah? Well this was all a ruse, your princess is in another castle" or something to that effect. I dunno, kind of a weird complaint I guess...

I bought this game and am 25% of the way in and absolutely love it. I didn't play LOTR based upon poor reviews so I have nothing to compare it to. So far it's lived up to the hype completely!
+
im stuck on the mission where you have to get the supply truck through any advice?

My big problem with these games (AW, AW2 and FC) is that they are based on a rectangular grid instead of a hex grid.
For those of you who aren't familiar with hex-based games, the hexes allow more directions of movement/attack without introducing the distortions that come from letting pieces move diagonally - on a hex map there are no diagonals.
+
Atilla...your natural reaction is to run for the hills...don't! You must attack and eliminate the tank busters first and then the gunships. Move the truck around to buy time. It took me a few times to finally beat that level too!
Troll...I see where you're coming from. The biggest problem with this game is that you can't attack diagonally, which seems silly. That 'nuance' can be used to your advantage of course but it does detract from gameplay.
