First off I want to say I have played this game for about four hours so it is a partial review. For those who don't know what this game is about, it is a turn based strategy, a mix between Command&Conquer and Fire Emblem.
The graphics are very nice, bit not really the selling point for this game. Map Textures are very nicely done as well as character models. Compared to Fire Emblem on the Nintendo DS they are astonishing, and very well done for the PSPs' power.
The gameplay is very interesting so far, and I'm sure is only going to get more advanced as well as exciting while campaign missions progress. The Units are nicely varied and are very fun to expierement with different combinations of moves and strategies. Maps are very cool so far with desert, forest, snow maps. Also you can control land units, air units, and water units all with their own unique gameplay, for example submarines can sumerge thus disapper out of field of view. There is too much to list here as this game has a very good amount of depth. The controls are very easy to learn and very nicely done, no problems at all.
Sound is well done with varying explosions, different units all make differnt moving sounds, for example a tank that has treads makes the noise of treads, a truck with tires makes the noise of tires over ground, etc. Nice soundtrack as well, it might eventually get on my nerves after hours of gameplay, but thats what the old mp3 is for
It contains Multiplayer Ad-hoc, Infastructure, and one where you use one PSP and hand it off to a friend, these are all limited to two players. I have not extensively played these modes so I won't review.
This game contains a map editor plus many unlockables, Overall I am very impressed, Only thing I can see wrong with this game so far is sometimes it will lag while scanning the map(could just be my PSP). If you will excuse me I have to go play Field Commander right now because it is highly addictive.
Advance Wars was great. It was a straightforwards copy of Command and Conquer..which was VERY cool and THAT is a port of Risk. I love turn based strategy games. Nice review. Kinda early to be giving a full review..with only 4 hours play. I'm really interested in the online portion of this game. I have a twin brother living 1/2 way across the country I really REALLY want to teach a lesson too Thanks!
There's a full review of the game on IGN and a couple of gameplay movies to whet the appetite.
Game looks good but the gameplay looks a little simple, maybe it's the strategy that makes it?
(Not taking anything away from Geezus review!-cheers)
Loving this game... I can't put it down! The missions are long but not too long. Beautiful graphics. Challenging but not ridiculously hard (ramps up nice and slow as you get to know what works best against what). Decent voice acting and story. Exactly the kind of game I have been looking for!
You left out the transmision mode, you can start one with a friend, take your turn, then they will download your turn then take theirs, then you download theirs and it keeps going in a circle untill you finish that game. I hope to wright up a review once i can take a couple minutes away from this game!!!
im bout 6 missions in to the game and so far im lovin it the computer is pretty smart and hard to beat sum times
best advice for this games is to not box in ur base especialy with air units in play
