It took some time, but Sony got around to releasing Katamari Damacy in Europe a couple of months ago. Odd, and oddly addictive, I thought it would be a great kind of game to put on a portable to fire up for a few minutes, but my concern would be whether the smaller display, and weaker machine would do justice to the amount of action onscreen in the average frenetic Katamari session.

No worries! Not only is M&MK as much fun on PSP as it was on PS2, it looks just about as good.

If you haven't encountered its weirdness to date, Katamari is all about rolling a big ball of stuff, snowball fashion by controlling a little midget called the Prince and his sticky orb. The ball can barely lift up a safety pin when it starts off, but as it grows it can soon absorb beer bottles, bicycles, cars and whales.

The challenge comes from getting the katamari to the required size set by the King of All the Cosmos in the time allocated, and the finesse comes from composing the katamari from the preferred kind of objects - no easy task when you set out.

Added to this simple but enjoyable gameplay concept is an extremely bizarre Monty Python-esque game setting, which suits the silliness of rolling up sunbathers and zoo animals into a ball perfectly.

The game progression is managed more cleverly than the PS2 and its easy to pick up and play and looks spectacularly vibrant. Unlike anything else on any handheld. Do try it out.

When I started playing it, it was not bad, when I got to the middle, it was REALLY fun, then I got to the end and I was happy as heaven that I just borrowed it from my friend

You don't die, your parents, the King and Queen of All Cosmos come down really hard on you. I have a problem with the fluidity from one size level to the next. I haven't found a way to go from picking up thumbtacks to picking up islands and volcanoes in the same run without the King skipping you from one board to another, even in eternity mode, because there's not enough stuff to collect to break out of any one board. Seems like something that I should be able to do with a system this powerful and a game this creative.
