My standard AC charger is missing. While at the store, the standard ones are around $25. Since I'm hoping mine will resurface, I decided to go cheap as possible.
I found this product for $7. It doesnt feel like the most durrable product ever, but it should do it's job. The USB cord expands to about 1.5 feel long and connects into the PSP's USB and power ports.
USB works like any standard cable. The charging aspect of it does the job. It's not as fast as the standard AC charger, but leaving it to charge over night did the trick. When I woke, the amber light is off, meaning charge complete.
That's about all I know. For $7 it did the trick.

I have one of these without the retracable part. It works great. As far as charging goes, usb is low voltage/amperage so it'll take longer..but it works great. Love mine when traveling with my laptop.

Wow its pretty cheap for 7$
So its usb and charger both, right

Can't you charge with a standard USB mini cable anyway?
+
If it takes long to charge and still reaches a full charge, it should be better for the battery's life and charge life.
+
NDR008 - That depends on the type of battery... The slow charge approach really doesnt help this type of battery. (I dont recally the 3 types off hand to discuss them intelligently, but all I can say is the slow charge doesnt really give any benefits with this type).
Archie411 - One end plugs into your PC's USB slot and the other end splits where one cable goes into the PSP USB port and the other into the PSP power port.
Zero - No. The PSP's USB port doesnt send power to the battery, so it cant charge straight from a USB to USB conncetion. It needs the seperate cable to go into the power port.

yoyo_pete: Yeah, the slow charge is meant to be best for Ni-Cd which haven't been used for a while (i remember using them when i use to compete in RC car 1:10 categories), and we would require the batteries to last as long as possible to have it being used as much as possible in the optimal operating range. We also use to fry the battery with 'peak' charges. We use to shortly charge the battery with pulses at a higher voltage so that the battery would give a short burst of power. (We had equipment to this).
But if i am not mistaken, Li-Ion, and Ni-Mh also experience a small affect of this. Li-Ion and Ni-Mh are meant to have the ability to be charged without a full drain, but I doubt that they don't share any similarities to their predecessor NiCd (i could be mistaken too).

I used to run 1/10 also.. I think with Li-Ion the battery has a "brain" where it knows what it's full and depleated charge is. When you run it from full to drained, it can "forget" where its charge is. You end up seeing stuff like devices say No Battery and turn off, you turn it back on to a 1/2 a charge. Trickle charging doesn't hurt them, but it doesnt give the benefit like it does with Ni-Cd batteries. (good post)

cheers to you too your good knowledge yourself
