I must admit that I had no interest in the game. I didn't know what it was about or when it was being released. I must say that I’m quite impressed. It’s a simple straight forward game with little difficulty but it’s entertaining. It has a play as you go movie type setup which is well thought out. It has plenty of extras and connection capabilities to the Jax racing game. You can also gain extras that are unlocked by the Jax game and send to the Daxter. Overall the game is just fun.
Controls: Dead on. It's smooth as butter and you are never struggling for control of Daxter or the camera. I haven't run into a camera problem yet.
Design: I'm about 40% done with the game and the design is varied and fun. Several different environments with excellent visuals.
Graphics: Could easily pass for PS2. Enough said. Okay....it's gorgous. and the between scenes movies are good looking and abundant.
Story: Could either be described as campy fun or a little soft. I prefer campy fun but it's not a complex story.
Daxter takes on a job as an insect exterminator, but the bugs aren't just annoying....they're planning a takeover. The "flying" comes from various attachements that you can add to your repellent gun which, because Daxter is so light, gives him a arosol boost.
It's a platformer, it's fun, it has good grahphics and voice acting. Easily 9+. I'm not big on droning on forever but as the owner of a PSP, if you don't get this game you are hosing yourself out of one of PSP's best.
I'd suggest renting it... I beat it fairly quickly with an 85% finish in under a week with about 10 hours or so invested.
I'm disappointed in the length, but the game is a good game. One of the best I've played so far on my PSP - awesome graphics, flawless control, decent tie-in to previous Jak/Daxter games, and the loading method(s) are quite nice and doesn't take forever to load anything. In fact, that part had me floored... some slow-down on save, but other than that, I did not look at a "Now Loading" screen once.
