Generation of Chaos has a bunch of good ideas, but it's buried underneath a confusing menu system. There is, however, a good amount of depth for those willing to tough it out and take the time to learn the system. But for those looking for a game like Final Fantasy Tactics, move on. This is more like Risk mixed in with Monopoly. Those looking for a deep strategy RPG to take on trips will find something to like in here, provided they understand what they’re getting into, and invest the time to master this hybrid game.
Presentation - 60
Poorly designed menus and interface, read Manual first. Nice character portraits, but sprites are not all that great.
Graphics - 65
Interesting character design, decent battle visuals, magic spells seem like all the same graphic effect. Some slow downs when 30 vs 30. Nice cut scene when doing supers with main Generals.
Sound - 65
It's not memorable, nothing to get really excited about.
Gameplay - 60
Rewarding strategy elements marred by sloppy menus and interface design, very deep, but only if you master it.
Lasting Appeal - 70
Pics and movies are unlockable, plus 10 Generals to go through the story. Very rewarding once you learn how to play. Had to give it a second chance to appreciate its depth.
ok everybody trust me! if you really like strady rpg games and are not afraid of new thing syoull love this game! its simply amazing! the har dpart is the learning curve, but dont judge the game by the manual, but what the game offers after u master it (which can take up to 4 hours so you also needa be pacient for this game). dont listen to ign and other game sites who played this game for only an hour and dont know what they are talking about. read player reviews, and most of them are 9, some 8 out of 10. there was only one 4 out of 10, but thats acceptable since 1 dude on a website actually gave god of war a 0(idiot). anyway once you went past the learning curve this game rocks! its simply awsome, and a must have for stradegy gamers!!!!
Yeah I honestly like this game but you have to tough it out on your own, I say this is for hardcore SRPG fans. Thats why I gave it a honost review. Took me a while to like it but overall its a cool game.
i just reviewd it myself, sorry but i gave it a 92. it deserves an excellent rating, ofcoyrse if you detest stradegy steer clear. im not a huge fan of it, im ok with it often, but i love this game, just like i love advance wars. the only reason you shouldnt play this game is if your an anime rascist, since the game is highly anime-like, or if you absloutly despise rpgs. also if you rent it, most likely unless you play 5 hours you wont understand whats so good. Trust me, at first dont give up. It will all make sense. also the 1st battle you ever do you are highyl likely to get smoked (i did) but its smart to save and try to win your first time just in case. after about 3 battles you kinda get it, after like 5 its a peice of cake

Actually I found the game to be extremely flawed. The game lagged a lot at times and the controls for menu at modest were lame. It was a real pain trying to outfit my captains with new equipment since half the time I didn't even know what they were wearing. The game could have used a tune-up before being released here in the states. Plus the learning-curve for the game is incredibly high and the only way to learn everything is with the mini-guideon the site, not everything can be experienced through gameplay alone. You have to actually read into it to learn about to the formulas, its like a very advanced game of chess.
Thats why I gave it a 7, I like the game but its not for everyone. But there are people who love this game so much that they ignore all the flaws. But with my review you get the good and the bad. Hope it does help anyone thinking about getting this game.
skooboi equipping iems is extrmeemly easy, and ppl figured out those chess stradegies, so you be smart and do it in this game too lol. by the way, in the first quest (the begiiner 1) what do you do to beat the dragon in chap3? i basicly stopped playing at that time and began playing the other quests
just adding on the battle snever lag for me. the only thing that lags sometime sis the dialogue, and the loading of the abttle when you get the option to start or choose a formation, but thats just loading, since they didnt putloading skills
To beat dragon use someone real strong and lower his Moral to 0, I beat it in one round with Lada the Knightlord, and I just got his father Straffan in Chp4. Game is so far so good, at least for me it is.
The problem with the chess analogy is that people know that chess is respected as a game so if they struggle with learning the game they know in the end it will be worth it. When it comes to today's games, there's not a lot of confidence in GoC being a good game when there are so many obfuscations with the menu system and the obvious holes in the documentation to the point where the first experiences with it are nothing but failures. The reality is that it's a challenging game and it takes time to master, but the expectations is that it is flawed in obvious ways and that it could very well be fundamentally flawed in design.
The point of these reviews is to say hey, don't worry, there is a good game underneath it, but you'll have to be VERY patient to get to a point where it becomes comfortable enough to get past those interface flaws and familiar enough to not need to refer to a guide book or manual.
I'm starting to finally enjoy it, but I'll tell you, those first 4 hours kinda made me want to throw my PSP out the window.
