My Sony EX71s were starting to break down so I went out and bought the Playgear Mod and another in-the-ear-phone - the Sennheiser CX300. In anycase, when I got these, the first thing I thought was that they looked sleek. Cool. I put them on and they were very comfortable (I use them without the comfort rings) and they stay on. And then I turned the PSP on and proceded to try it out.
For games, the sound is a drastic improvement over the PSPs speakers and the stock headphones. In particular, in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, the punchs and effects have more thump to them. There's also a pretty big improvement when it comes to listenting to music and movies.
However, it's not all fine and dandy. The main flaw in my assessment is that these headphones don't get loud enough. I'm the kind of person who likes to listen to music loud, in order to drown out outside noise. But these can't do that effectively because they just don't get loud enough. Don't get me wrong, they're loud enough at MAX volume to cancel out noise, but they get so weak at medium volume that you can barely hear them over anything else, like someone talking (leaning more towards can't). Now, whether this is due to the opne-air design of the headphones themselves, or the PSP's inability to pump power into the headphones, I don't know. It's more likely due to the PSP, I explain why in a bit.
Because of the open-air design, a lot of the sound leaks out and so others are able to hear it. To further compound this problem, because the headphones aren't at all loud at medium volumes, I'm forced to pump the volume up on the PSP (close) to max just so I can hear it over outside noises. This is all fine when I'm out and about or at home, but in the workplace this is a no-no as it disturbs others.
I mentioned, that the PSP is partly to blame for this because it's not pumping enough power into the headphones. I came to this conclusion by trying these headphones with other products, namely an mp3 player (Apple iPod 4G, and Sony NW-HD5) and my computer. With both the MP3 players and the computer, the volume was much louder on these headphones at medium and max volume than on the PSP. But even then, a lot of the sound leaks out and can be heard by others outside (quite clearly I might add).
These headphones are great for the price, especially if you can find them for less than the MSRP. They are a drastic improvement over the stock headphones. But in my opinion, they just don't get loud enough when used with the PSP without having to pump up the volume and disturbing others (like in the workplace)
In the end, I'd recommend getting these only because they're bang for the buck. They have great style and sound, but I can't recommend these over higher priced headphones in terms of quality. Remember, you get what you pay for. Personally I'd recommend the Sennheiser CX300 in-the-ear-phones over the Playgear Mod AND the Sony EX71/81s.

I loved these headphones, but i cracked them in half...i am planning on buying a second set though!

Will they fit ok on like a kid's head, like around 10-12????
+
Yes. They'll fit ok around a child's head. Overall the band is pretty small, and it flexes to fit any size head.
The child may need to use the comfort grips that loop around the ears to keep them from slipping off during activities (i.e. running) though...

I wish I had that because my original ear buds are hurting my ears
