I noticed shortly after I bought my PSP and hammering some Ridge Racer for hours on end, (most recently GTA:LCS and Fight Night R3 hehe!) that my hands were starting to cramp up and finally had to put the PSP down for a while. Thus began my search for the perfect case.

I travel quite a bit for my job, last year I was on the road for about 40 weeks. So I spend a lot of time in airports and hotels.

I started with the Logitech playgear pocket and I liked that, but it was still to small for my hands. I'm 5'11" and wear large sized gloves, hopefully this is average, but I don't know, anyhoo, I was at target and they carry the PowerSource game grips. I tried these out and they were good, but way too bulky. I had to keep them in my suitcase and hope they were intact by the end of the trip.

So along comes the BLACK Comfort Grips. I was reluctant at first, already dropping the buck on the other grips, but alas, there was no reason to worry. From the instant I opened the package I knew this was my solution!

The main portion of the grips is a clear polycarbonate that snaps around the PSP. encasing it in a (non-padded) plastic armour. The handles fold to two different positions via small plastic buttons on the back that serve as a locking mechinism. These also give way so that instead of breaking the button or the handle in a drop or sit on, they will just close shut.

Much to my suprise ALL of the availible ports are accessable with the grips attached. USB, UMD, volume, bright, select, start, home and the paddles and controls are readily availible without opening or closing anything. However, if you want to play while the mains is connected or with headphones, you'll have to extend the handles and leave them extended, which shouldn't bother most people, as the handles only extend about an inch. (This was another problem the power grips, but you couldn't plug in the remote plug while it was in the grips.) None of the buttons are impeded and this thing is ultra lite weight.

I usually play with an analog stick, but I also had no problems with having it fit with the PSP in the grips.

The only problems I have with the device is that the grips make it a little bulky and the clear poly has a little too much glare. To remedy this, I just play away from bright light. Pull the shade down on the airplane, angle the PSP away from light in a car. The PSP isn't really suited for outdoors, anyway, so it's not that huge of a deal. Plus, it is difficult to find a case that will fit with any attachment that adds bulk to the PSP, so to remedy this I picked up a messenger type camera bag witch did the trick.

In summary, the BLACK Comfort Grips are probably the best, least intrusive grips I have laid hands on that in my opinion will be the grips that all other grips will try to emulate. For all you large handed gamers who want to avoid a serious case of Carpel tunnel, these are the grips for you!!!

Would be so interested in one of these, just the only thing that puts me off is the plastic cover over the screen, at the moment I use a Hori and its fantastic, does the plastic cover impare the viewing really that much ?

I appretiate it very much...and its not a big dent in the wallet...plus the cover takes the beating not the LCD screen...and those little wing things tuck in too...

I got mine for $14 - didn't even see the review. I like them, but wonder when the clear plastic face will scratch. I haven't travelled with it yet. It's light, but I worry if the handles will get a little loose after a while, as there is a bit of a give. Power switch is difficult to access, but most other things are easy to get at - even speakers are exposed. I got this from a US source, but these don't appear to be out in stores here in Japan as yet.

I got this in part to replace my hori flip-shield, which broke after only a couple of months. One of the nibs on the hinge snapped off in my travel bag. I can't figure out how that happened.

Now, if the Black case came with a flip shield - it would be near bliss.
