I first laid my eyes on Vulcanus upon reaching the shores of Korea. At first I thought that the language barrier would stop me from buying it but after I saw its TV ad, I knew I just had to get it.

Vulcanus starts off with a nice CG mini-movie. It shows off the different ‘bots blasting one another in a sort of futuristic World War era. It then proceeds to the title screen with a sign flashing the traditional “Press the START button”. From there, you could either choose to start a new game or to load a saved file. Starting a new game allows you to input your own nickname. Amazingly, it has been already pre-set as it takes your nickname from the nickname you chose when you first booted up your PSP. After which, you are taken to a screen wherein you may select the various options Vulcanus has to offer: Story/Mission, Multiplayer, and of course, the Options.

Story Mode might be confusing for some as there is a language barrier. There is no English whatsoever in this game. However, it is all self-explanatory. Thankfully, they decided to add scenes to help players decide where to go or how to accomplish the mission. I haven’t tried multiplayer mode yet but I’m sure it would be more fun than story mode however, the game only supports up to four players.

Load times for each mission are moderate enough considering the amount of graphics the developers put into it. Speaking of which, the graphics are pretty good though the explosions need to be improved. The sound effects and the music, on the other hand, match the game. The sound effects are realistic and the music has a grim tone (this is a war after all).

Thankfully, the controls are superb unlike some PSP games. The shoulder buttons are used to look left and right, the X button is to fire, the square button is to use your thrusters, the circle button is to reload, and the triangle is to switch weapons, pick up items, or simply to activate things for the mission.

The amount of weapons is vast and you may upgrade your basic weapons by spending points for each upgrade. You can even use some weapons located on the map. I was treated once to a nice spot wherein I take hold of a huge sentry to blast hordes of enemies.

Overall, I would say this game offers a lot of fun though it may be as simple as wiping out tons of enemies to activating bombs in specific areas. Lots more could be said about the game but you just have to try it out yourself. I suggest you purchase this game especially if you’re a big fan of robots or warfare. It’s a game worth having in your collection. Oh, and believe me, the language barrier isn’t a problem.

It is awesome. People would buy it. The code and game already exist. All that would be required is a translation.

Of COURSE it isn't coming to America!

He stated he hasn't tried the multiplayer mode yet - so I'm assuming 'yes' there is a online mode. It looks like a poor mans Mech Assault if you ask me.

Well, since it likely won't come to the US, and I don't feel like paying the hefty extra costs for an import, I'll hold off on this.

Hopefully this is a game where you can ACTUALLy control the mech... unlike Armored Core. What a waste of 2,000 yen.... *stabs self again in the face*
