One of the selling points for the PSP for me was the Sims 2. I had the Sims2 on my PC but it was so graphicly intense that I could barely run it. I was confident that it would run perfectly on Sony's portable technolgical wonder. Boy was I wrong.
Playability
You can't play it! Well, not enough to enjoy it. I'd like to play it but it's very hard to do so when you can feel the UMD spinning every 4 seconds and it bottlenecks out trying to stream data.
Also, this isn't The Sims you are familiar with! This is more like an RPG in a Sims environment. Most of the time you are doing the conversing (in Simmish language) and it's a Rock/Paper/Scissors thing. She says "this" you say "that" if it's a match, you get a plus. It's on a timed basis as well which is kind of fun, if it weren't for the choppyness of the streaming.
Load Times
The load times are normal and rather quick. The problem lies that every house is a different load time. So lets say you accidently go to the wrong house, that turns into a 10-15 second load time, if not more.
Graphicsp
The graphics are what you'd expect, similar to a PS1-PS2.
Sound
It has exactly all The Sim sounds you've come to know and love, and after this, you will hate. Of course, since it's constantly reading data from the much spun UMD, the soundtrack is off a bunch.
Overall
I might actually like this game if it weren't for the choppyness. This game is nearly unplayable. I've also scoured the net looking into this problem however since it's new, there is no information about it, not even on the Sims 2 official site.
In regards to this question: Do EA get people to test these games before they release them?
Good question, I am sure they do but they get monkeys to do it. It's annoying because it's fricking common sense that tells you if a game is bad. They probably shrugged their shoulders and said, "Oh well, It'll do".
The big bosses at EA also probably don't give a crap what the game is like as long as it's released on time. I used to think EA were great and used to stand by them when people put them down, but I am getting tired of the crap they are coming out with.
It seems that the company is getting so big that they really can't over see everything in the development process of all their games
Wow. Now I'm mad that it's choppy, because I was looking forward to buying this, and showing that not every video game is geeky (a lot of "regualr" people like Sims, I hear).
I'm giving it a 5 because you are stopped dead in your trax because the inability to play it. I did rate it but for some reason that didn't come over in the review
