| Summary: A Great RPG ride!
85
Well, I finally put down Infected long enough to play Kingdom of Paradise for an hour or so and will say the game is pretty cool. By far one of the best looking games on the system I might add.
It is a pretty serious action RPG with very heavy Asian influence. You can tell from the wonky translated dialog, which is about 90% spoken, and from the heavy historical stoyline.
This is one of the first game I had to read the manual in order to play. There are different schools of martial arts that you can learn as well as a heavy empahasis on magic. It is kinda cool because you gain skills by finding scrolls all over the map that you assemble into combos. The combat itself is very simplistic and repetitive, although challenging at times.
After building a combo you simply press the circle button the amount of times you have moves programmed into the combo. The magic works by holding down the square button to fill your magic meter than tapping square again to fire it. All the while you are trying to avoid getting hit and having your charge interrupted. whhhhhhew! Sound confusing? Well, it can be! But after you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature and you start feavorishly scouring the map looking for more combo scrolls.
You are confined to a somewhat linear path, although the areas are fairly large to explore. The maps take a little getting used to as well.
After all of this you may be wondering if the learning curve is worth it? Well, I believe it is if you are a fan of action RPG's because this is a really good and deep game. This is a thinking game so it won't replace games like X-Men Legends 2 or Untold Legends. I have only put in a little over an hour so I am only scratching the surface here.
All in all a good RPG for the PSP!
Gameplay: 85 - Deep, pretty decent learning curve that pays off in the end.
Graphics: 92 - Very nice eye candy! Animations are well done and the environments look good.
Sound: 75 - Wonky translated dialog, but the spoken parts add some value!
Replayability: 90 - From what I have read this game takes a minimum of 15 hours to complete and there is a multi-player aspect that allows you to take your guy into an arena to use the skills you have learned against others! NICE!
Total: 85 - Any RPG fan should take a look. All others rent first!

lets see you write a better review

Thank you, I've been dying for an actual user submitted review!

This game is quite awesome! I purchased it on Saturday and am glad that I did. I just wish I could find a walkthrough online to help me out with some parts. My main gripe with the game is that objectives are not clearly outlined and the world map is mostly useless. Other than that it is a blast!

I imported the demo to this a long time ago. It's pretty cool.

I just got the game and I like it a lot! I agree with everyone really. I liked his review, but personally, I would have waited to write a review 'til I've beaten the game. But his review did further ground my decision of buying Kingdom of Paradise.

mdhegs, forget about some of these dolts. i read your review, bought the game and totally love it. of course, i have yet to beat that really strong dude in the temple, but i am working on it.
the graphics are awesome. i have noticed no camera problems that make this game a pain. the controls have been reacting as they should. the only thing that seems a bit odd is the few seconds i have to wait for the cut scenes to actually start. but this really isn't a problem.
mdhegs, you are welcome to review anything you want in any way you want at my site. i would put the address here, but i think some of these people would tell me to get bent. i will message you with it.
kudos, friend.

I think it was a good review, i have played the game for a while and have similar thoughts on it, although i am very bad at it, i could not beat "Young Boy"

OJO: that anology simply sucks, comparing a honest reviews from a guy that said it only played for an hour (and again you don't know what he achieved in one hour) with a "baby killing" thread is ridiculous. I mean, you could disagree, I think it's fair to think no one can make a substabcial review with one hour of game play, but that comparision, well let's say it was a lesser moment of your life (sigh!).
Then again, I liked the guy's review, taking in account it was based on one hour play, I usually don't post reviews, because I don't have the time, so I respect everyone that tries to help. I remember for instance a game called Hunter: The Reckoning taht I finished in 4 hours, so in one hour I must have been through 1/4 of the games, anyway... the anology was unfortunate.
Peace.
