A great achievement this one. To take a fine PS2 outing, to perfectly recreate it, and then add four brand new levels is amazing.
The whole Tony Hawk series lately has had its detractors. The story modes are undoubtedly getting worse, what with a few difficult missions, crowded by way too many one trick missions. And then, the couldn't-be-more-annoying-if-he-tryed Bam Margera getting his disgraceful face all over this.
Porting over the PS2 version could easily have been a grave error. I couldn't see myself wanting to play a watered down THUG game on my PSP, especially after completing the original so quickly previously. But within minutes I was back in the groove again, such a refreshing experience, almost like i'd never even heard of, let alone played the original.
Yet surprisingly, everything still feels rewardingly familiar. Load times are still friendly, the graphics look crisper than ever on the PSP's screen, and there's four huge, whole new levels to get to grips with also.
You honestly could just take a PS2 game review for this, and add a few more brownie points for the extra levels i'd have to say. If you've ever, at any point of the series been a fan and are debating whether to pick this up, then do so. But if you've never appreciated the series, or just hate the guts of Bam Margera, avoid, like the plague!
