| Summary: Futuristic racing, in the purest sense

So this is what the UK had waited so long for! With every console launch game lineup, there needs to be at least one title that you should be forcing in your friends faces to say "Just look at this!". Wipeout Pure, was just one of those titles in the UK.
It is everything you'd want from a handheld racing title. Incredibly detailed racing arenas, the most gorgeous ambient theme music...and it's fast as hell too!
When you throw the game on, the races are scarily slow. Quite the let down you might think at first. But believe me, you're going to need this learning curve! The first few races are easy enough to get to grips with, but in later divisions, it almost leaves you feeling one more speed boost and the cameras will never be able to keep up with you.
As with all Wipeout titles, it's still frustratingly slow to accelerate once you've hit a wall, or been shot by an opponent. But then, it wouldn't be much of a challenge if you just hit your previous break neck speeds within seconds of being knocked back a peg or two!
Power ups and speed boosts are delightfully places on tracks to leave you with quite a difficult split second decision on a lot of tracks. Either get the power up, and hope you can (no pun intended) wipeout the group of racers in front, or whether to use your skills and try and speed ahead. Within a good few plays though, you'll know which suits your skills the most.
Also, the game is quite hefty in size too! Not only with the decent array of tracks and vehicles that come on the UMD, there's an increasing number of free content on the Wipeout Pure website. Now for free, you'd be forgiving for thinking these would be just thrown together in seconds, and utterly uninspiring to the eye. NEVER the case. If anything, the updated tracks probably better those you start with!
In my opinion, this is the very best game you'll find out on PSP at the moment. The most stunning tech demo you could hope to show any of your friends. And at the forefront of multiplayer wifi gaming and content downloads, it's an absolute must have.
