Looking at how I already transferred my content to my PSP, I thought for a few moments about buying Media Manager.
My videos are converted using PSP Video 9, a great program that does require a little bit of technical knowledge but is, on the whole, very easy to use. My audio files are stored in Windows Media Player and then transferred to my PSP using the Sync feature or by copying the folder to the device in explorer. Photos are transferred using explorer. And all of this happens either using the USB cable (only some of the time) or by putting my MS Duo in my VAIO laptop using the MS adaptor.
So why buy Media Manager?
When you transfer audio, you can choose to 'down sample' it to a particular quality. It does this on the fly without changing the original file and this is a godsend. I may want my MP3 files encoded in 256k for my stereo, but there's no need for anything to be encoded above 128k on the PSP, saving space on your MS Duo. Transferring video is a snap, and the quality is superb - much better than PSP Video 9 in 'like-for-like' AVC mode. Photos not only transfer, but you can also fix the resolution to fit the PSP and, again, save space. Quality is superb once more.
The real plus points are the Feed options and the Backup facility. The Feed option allows you to subscribe to any of the feeds in the extensive directory included in the application, or by adding any URL to Media Manager. Once you've subscribed to a feed, you click on the feed to see all the articles, which you can then transfer to the PSP with a single click of your mouse. With so many 'podcast' feeds available, it means you can keep up to date with audio casts covering any subject. And as more and more people set up MP4 feeds (such as 29 Guide), you can get regular video updates and programs to watch.
The Feed option also includes comics and magazines, including direct download of the PSPages e-mag. The Backup option is simplicity itself. Click Backup, and your MS Duo is backed up. You can then restore everything or just selected items whenever you need to. Media Manager also manages and saves your game save files. I've set it up to rip CDs to the same directory as my Windows Media Player repository, which monitors that folder for new files. This way, CDs ripped into WMP or PSP MM sit in the same place. You'll find default folders in the Settings area.
Where could it be better?
I've noticed when you transfer very large numbers of audio files, it gets the file order wrong. This only happens when, for example, you're transferring a single folder with more than 99 tracks in it; an audio book, for example, where each track is a chapter in the book. It gets it wrong because the 'track number' field is not set as a three-digit number, so track 101 follows track 10. There's also a little niggle when transferring lots of items, as the program refreshes the 'target window' too regularly, which slows down the transfer.
Otherwise, it's a great application and I'm very pleased with my purchase. I recommend it wholeheartedly and am not unhappy to pay $20 for something that makes managing my one MS Duo card a lot easier, effectively meaning I can swap items in a snap and avoid having to think about buying more MS Duo cards; something that would cost me a lot more than $20.
I'll upgrade the rating as soon as Sony add more features and fix the little niggles I've mentioned.

Once again, another software release for PSP without Mac support. Makes no sense to me whatsoever. Guess I'll stick with PSPware.

Sony just doesnt get it. You cant get the average consumer to do "new" things on a new platform and expect to charge the consumer. The consumer will just ignore. This aplication wasn't really made for us, we know how to do this, instead it was made for the non tech suavvy person. The guy that buys a crappy game like Gretsky 05 for 50 bucks at wallmart cause he knows no better. He, the average consumer, is not educated in tech and will therefore never use the full potential of the psp.The average consumer is never going to pay $20 for somthing he does not know how to use or what to do with it. If you really want the average consumer to use the psp u give them the aplication for free. Like itunes with podcast support. Beforehand no one used podcast because they knew nothing about it and most importantly the cost. Now your grandmother can easily
listen to her favorite larry king interview on her ipod. While this might be pathetic it is also very good business. It spread the word of this new technology so fast without having to spend much money on promoting it. It gives extra features never used before by the average consumer, fetures that may have swayed the consumer to buy a paticular product. If sony would give this for free to the average person word would spread fast. And without spending much money either. There is still some of ignorance about the psp 8 months after the launch. All of this because the average consumer never really knew about all of the potential of this new platform. Sony execs keep on saying that there will be conpatibility with their products, over and over again. So far nothing has happened. AS far as i know sony's own connect store doesnt have easy compatibliity with the psp, never less it is a very dry aplication. Hell i cant even get a stright forward answer on whether or not i can swap memory sticks with the new WALKMAN phone which uses the same memory stick duo. If i dont get a answer soon im not going to buy the phone. That is 500 bucks down the drain for sony. Neverless that the major audience for the phone are the same people that own psp's. I would of bought a 2 gig memory stick too. Another few hundred down the drain. If sony does not fix the problem of confusing conectivity without having to buy an apliaction that should be free the multimedia conponents of the psp will sink outside of our boards. What a shame considering that 3 out of the 4 dffrent buttons , Music, photo, video and Game, will be rendered useless considering it is what the entire campain of the psp is about.
(NOTE1 Can sombody pleese give me an answer on the WAlKMAN phone thing is, im goin crazy cause the support centers aperantly dont know)
(Note 2- The whole dvd ripping issue is tough to adress, for a long time it is gonna be a side issue until the supreme court can handle it, most likely going to give control to the movie indrustry. All u people forget sony makes alot of its money making movies, so im sure there against ripping dvds considering we could so" hapily" buy them for 20 bucks on umd and drain our money to give them more.)

I have the W800 and the PSP the card swap is not without problem. They use different folder stricture so they dont see each others file's

I've had no problems with VOB. I put in Shaolin Soccer and the media manager recognized the disk right away. It took almost 4 hours, but it worked.

Err,any one use Nero Digital Encode & AnyDVD to rip their movies? I do; works fine... Maximum PC gave it high marks on this as well...

"....If Sony would just allow us full resolution encodes we would be set. ..."
Sony had to leave some reason to sell movies on UMD!

$20 for something that should have been free in the first place, no thanks. Useful piece of software but it's outrageous that Sony are actually charging you for this. It should have bundled with the PSP. Bah.
