GTA:LCS is so far, the best game for the PSP. All PSP owners and GTA fans must play this game.

Graphics

The graphics in this game easily outshine every other game on the system. Not only do the graphics look great, but the game handles them great too. If it weren't for the fact that the scrren in smaller, I'd swear that this was a PS2 game.

With very rare slow downs, except for the usual ones in GTA games (where there is a pileup of 40 cars on a freeway and the helicopters and swat team are chasing you, with stuff blowing up in the background) this game runs very smoothly compared to other titles.

With more detail than any other GTA games, this game is definetly as pleasing to look at as it is to play.

Controls

Many might wonder how it's possible to control a game like GTA on the PSP, since GTA relies on alot of controls and the PSP is somewhat limited.

Well, Rockstar easily solved this problem, and the overall controls are actually more refined than the PS2 versions. You use the analog stick to control, and all of the face buttons perform the same functions as the PS2 version. To do a drive-by, simply hold the left trigger and push the analog stick in the direction you want to shoot. Then press the circle button to shoot. The camera is also controlled with the left trigger and analog stick, where the direction you point the analog stick is the direction that the camera faces.

Right trigger is lock-on, and you can cycle taregts with the D-pad. Down is to enable free aim, where you see the crosshairs. When in the car, the D-pad honks the horn, starts submissions, and changes the radio stations. Overall, this is quite possibly the best use of the PSP's controls.

Load times

GTA:LCS handles load times well too. You have 10 seconds loads between islands and when you turn on the game. Then, when entering a building or starting a mission, there is a 2-4 second load. Considering the sheer size of the game and the incredible graphics, this isn't bad at all, especially compared to other games (*cough*Midnight Club*cough*).

Sound

The sounds in this game are like any other GTA game. Good collection of music, voice acting, and sound effects. Everything is of great quality, except for the purposely designed over the phone conversations on the radio. Speaking of Radio, the musics itself will appeal to some people (not me, as VC had the only music I liked) but luckily, you can listen to LCTR, the talk radio station, which has some hilarious parts in it. Rockstar also included the option to put your own custom soundtracks in the game, which is a great touch for those who hate late 90's music.

Gameplay

Just like every other GTA game, except portable. You go around shooting people, driving cars, working for the mafia, killing people, stealing money, causing chaos in the strret, and pissing off everyone while doing it.

Multiplayer is an added bonus, with a bunch of gameplay modes (won't tell you guys though, have to find out yourselves) and over 60 characters to play as (some are unlocked in single player). It's very fun, and with more than two players, it's awesome!!!!

Summary

Overall, GTA:LCS is an experience that all PSP owners and GTA fans must experience. It is worth so much more than the $50 price tag. It also proves that the PSP itself can handle games of this size, and that all the developers so far, have just been lazy and made bad products.

If this shadows what the coming onslaught of games will be like, prepare to be in debt, as this is quite possibly the greatest portable gaming experiences I have had since, well, ever.

I refuse to believe in a perfect 100 score.

I second that bigstu. Not taking anything away from GTALCS but no game on any system deserves a 100. There is always room for improvement somewhere. IMO

yeah, i'd have to agree. the guy probably played it for 5 seconds before he gave it a perfect score. while it is the best game i've played on the PSP, it definately isnt perfect. everything is great, but could always use improvement. i'm still in awe, that i'm playing gta on the PSP, but its still very much like playing with motorcycles in gta3. i'm not complaining, its nice to see the city again, but sometimes i wish they started you out at a different hide out and little things like that. its a great game, but someone here got a little too excited by it. also, the soundtrack is probably my least favorite of the ps2 games but its not bad. dont get me wrong, i may seem to complain about the little things, but this is an awesome game worthy of an awesome score, just not a perfect one. if this is perfect, whats the sense in playing anything else on the PSP?

Hey, I didn't give it a 100% because it's better than anything that will come out.

I gave it a 100% because honestly, it feels like the first game that the developers actually worked on and weren't just plain lazy.

Plus, for the guy who said that I played it for 5 seconds, I wrote this review after 5 and a half hours of playing.

I also gave it a 100% because it doesn't get rid of anything to make up for the fact that it's portable.

Maybe you guys need to read the review and not just post arguments.

i agree, it feels very well done and it doesnt feel like things were left out because its a portable system. however, it doesnt make it a perfect game, it makes it a good game. because this is so crazy on a PSP it might get a little higher of a score, but it definately isnt perfect which is what 100% equals. its a fun game, but gta:sa was way funner on ps2 and even that didnt deserve a 100% for ps2. i know you didnt play it for 5 seconds, but you could never play it long enough to rate this at 100. at least the other reviews gave it a 95 lol. no diss intended, but you cant rate anything here a perfect without expecting some kind of comment about it or being accused of being a fanboy

actually, they did leave quite a bit out. flying, swimming, climbing, car modifications, city size, and a few other things. regardless though, its still an awesome game for a portable system and it doesnt have an overall cut corners feel to it like some other previous psp releases.

look i agree with you that this is an awesome game worthy of an awesome review, the only thing people have a problem with is the perfect score, but it is for sure the best PSP release to date so dont take it personal.

Yeah, but I mean features that make the game part of the series. Swimming, flying, car modifications, and working out and such didn't make GTA3 and GTA:VC good games.

Maybe I should have made the score less, but then people would just assume that it was not as good.

When I review games, I compare them to the system they are on and how well they fit into the series, not to how good the best game in the genre is.

People just need to realise that I review differently than them.

lets just stop at the fact that this is the best PSP game out hands down. its utterly amazing that they fit all this on the PSP and this is going to be the game that everything after will have to "try" and live up to. i feel sorry for the programmers that have to try and make a decent game following this.

and my initial excitement for this game could have lead me to give it a perfect score, but its impossible to rate anything perfect because we always want to know there will be even better. i do realize people review differently.

I never said nothing would be better, I just said that nothing so far has even been close to this quality.

I don't know why or how everyone thinks that I said everything after this would be horrible.

Anyway, I'm writing a new review, which will be up on another site. Then people can't argue with the fact that this is after 10 hours of gameplay.

its not that we think, or i think that you said anything after wont be as good. its just that when you rate something a perfect, what happens when a game after is a little better, you cant rate it higher so it falls into the same 100 even though one is better. look, its no big deal and i wont argue with you about how you felt about the game. if you say its a perfect 100, then so be it.

Well, I already told you, I am comparing it to other games on the system.

Maybe, if I could change the score, people wouldn't be arguing with me, as it's a huge waste of time. All I said was that this is the best experience I've had so far, and wipes the floor with anything else.

10/26/05 Agent808
and you're very right, best experience so far and for sure wipes the floor with everything else.

To me, an 80 is high. Seriously, if someone reviews something and gives it an 80 and someone else gave it a 100, i'd not think it were any lesser of a game.. I even regret giving the game a 90, because yes, swimming, flying and such are things I would have expected them to do... but, this game predates the time period of GTA3, and as such, I understood why they didn't include swimming and flying.. because GTA3 didn't have those things. Having motorcycles is enough of an addition to me. As well, Multiplayer is like a dream to me, I remember having to hax GTA3 for PC to get it to have multi and even just having a 2nd player in there with no rules is absolutely amazing... and to have Rockstar go so far as to make variable game types...

it's definately worth an 80 or 90 to be fair.. but nothing is 100. If they included swimming, flying, instant custom soundtracks, stats, property purchasing, customizable weapons and cars.. with voice chat.. that would be 100. Alas, that probably will never happen.. but we'll will see.. rockstar sure proved to me as a gamer that they could go all out with an already existing concept and game and make it refreshing again.
