It isn't often that you see products bearing 'aircraft grade aluminum' qualities, but after paying more than $250 for a PSP, that's the kind of security some of you will be demanding. If you're one of those people, then the Brando Aluminum PSP Case may be just for you.

What it is

The case is made of a very durable yet incredibly light aluminum and has a Neoprene lining inside to help absorb shocks. Similar to at least one other case, the Brando case has slots cut out to allow for access to the PSP's ports even when closed. Namely, you can access the shoulder buttons, the IR port, USB, WiFi switch, headphone port, power port and Power switch. Finally, you can even access the open switch, which not only seems over-zealous, but also incredibly pointless. The UMD slot will be entirely covered, so what is the point of having access to the open switch? Either we're missing something or the design was just rushed.

On the bottom of the case are 4 rubber stubs to absorb shock. As for positioning, you would expect the PSP to slide in with the USB port facing away from you, but it actually goes in the other way, so that you have access to the USB port. The hinge of the case ends up covering the bottom of the PSP. The internal lining seems decent, but not great. Overall the case feels polished and professional.

How does it work?

The PSP fits in quite snug and comes out easily enough. Having the USB port accessible is actually a nice feature. It will allow you to sync media to your PSP when it's sitting on your desk with case closed, and you can also charge it up with a USB Recharge cable. To its detriment, the clasp to close and open the case seems badly designed. It feels sturdy enough, but is designed such that if something were to catch and pull on the bottom of it, the lid might come open. Fortunately, the lining does keep the PSP somewhat snug, however, it didn't make much for it to pop out, nor would you be protected from scratches.

Thoughts

Overall, the case is decent. It isn't one of the best we've seen, but it's by no means one of the worst. The sturdy casing and open port design are great features that you won't find in other cases. One advantage that it has over one of our favorites, the Logitech PlayGear Pocket Case, is that it is incredibly light. Even though it doesn't have the best design, it does an above average job. If future versions address the lock mechanism, this case will be great. The Brando Metal Case is priced at $28USD
