I am a massive fan of the Vampire Saviour/Darkstalkers series so this was going to be a major game for me to own and be proud to own. I thought wrong.
With this being the only fighter I have owned on the PSP I was new to the 'fighting game PSP controls'.
I brought the game and stuck it in my PSP. Sexy intro comes on and im very excited. Get into the main settings and it has everything a VS/DS fan could want really. The graphics are great the speed is great the characters look very sleak on the small PSP screen. The option to choose 3/4 different DS types is also very cool.
From all of that you can't really go wrong. Until you start playing.
I chose my character and started the game. I walked up to my opponent and just tested a few combo chains to see how fast it reacted (LP, LP, MK, HK). Its pretty sweet so far. I try a crossover combo (jumping forward - diagonal up/right) but for some reason my character would either move forward or just jump. I thought that was because I was too excited at first but then kept trying it, and out of 10 times I managed to do a diagonal up/right jump 2 times out of 10 and in a 2D fighting game thats totally unacceptable. This happens for every diagonal and for one major diagonal in particular the crouching block diagonal. If this direction cannot be pushed then you are unable to block crouching moves like crouching Hight Kick.
With this I thought oh well I will just use the analogue then. Does not allow you to use analogue? I went into options, Controls and everything but there is no way to choose the analogue to move. I thought it might have been my PSP so I tried it on 3 of my friends. The exact same thing happened.
This game was a major let down and will be to any 2D fighting game fan but for someone who does'nt know what they are doing it will be a laugh. Lets just hope they allow you to use the analogue in future fighting games.
