Firstly, I have been a big fan of FIFA football series since about 2000. Finding out that FIFA06 would be available on the PSP meant that I could play FIFA 06 anywhere, which sounded cool. I have the PS2 version of this game, which is excellent.
I bought this game on release day in the UK. First of all you will notice a cross between FIFA 05 and FIFA 06 interface, with the it being visually like the older FIFA games menu system, but you will also notice that they have put many of the new features from FIFA 06 on PS2 into this game also.
The new "add-on" for the PSP version is the juggling game, which requires you to tilt your PSP 90 degrees anti-clockwise to see the player in portrait scale. This is good, but I think it would be better with a few more mini games.
Gameplay - 70
When I first played this game, after playing FIFA on PS2, I thought the controls were very sluggish. The joystick is a split second unresponsive, and other controls seem like this too. The controls are very similar to its PS2 couterpart, but replacing the functions on L2 + R2 onto L + are on the PSP by requiring you to double tab the shoulder button to get the requred function.
Load times - 80
Load times are the same as any other PSP game, they could be quicker, but they arent. The statium graphics do make up for the load times though.
Graphics - 75
The grahpics for the stadiums are superb, which I would say are as good as PS2 easily. When you are playing a game, the player graphics then are quite poor, as I used to get similar results on my Nokia N-Gage. The Cut Scenes are very good, slightly worse, that the PS2 version.
Sound - 95
The sound is excellent on this game. The menu music sounds rich, and not decoded to a lower bitrate to fit on the game UMD. The in-game commentary is equally excellent, as good as on PS2. Crowd cheers are also excellent.
Overall
Overall, if you are a big FIFA fan cant do without this game, buy it. Other wise if you are a slight football fan or you are more of a pro evo fan dont buy it. You will be dissapointed. Whether I was expecting too much of this game I dunno, but I could be a lot better.
