| Summary: A major improvement
90
Presentation - 90
The look of this game is great. It really shows off the power of the PSP in respect to its audio and visual capabilities. In addition, the set up and interface of this game over the last one is greatly improved. If you're like me and you bought the first version for PSP and you were let down (like I was), I don't think you will be this time.
Graphics - 90
This game looks fantastic. The character models are slick. The courses are beautiful. Then you add in the fact that the load times between holes have literally been cut down to a fifth or less of what they were on the previous version. Way to listen to your money source EA!
Audio - 90
The sound effects are pretty much par for the course (no pun intended), if you're playing on a PS2 that is. With some headphones on, it feels like you're out on the links yourself. Wind blowing, water rushing and birds chirping give it a realistic feeling.
The running commentary has improved also. It's now slightly less annoying when you miss that crucial putt. (Just ask John Daly right?)
Gameplay - 95
This game is deep. It will literally take you hours upon hours to complete and collect everything (785 total pro shop items, 6 course memberships, 4 special golfers and 15 sponsorships). With twelve course and 14 pros to match up against, its like the Snickers ad says "Not going anywhere for a while?"
You have your choice of QuickPlay mode to jump right into a round as usual. Then there's the Multiplayer mode where you can match up Ad-Hoc against someone else within spitting distance for a shootout.
Rivals Mode is where its at. You play through a series of challenges against 14 total pros to win trophies, cash and bragging rights. There are 84 total challenges in here.
Throw in the new "Putting Frenzy" mini-game (where you must sink a certain amount of putts within a certain amount of time) and the Game Face character editor and you've got even more time logged in. And I forgot the "Dream 18" area where you can create your own course from your favorite holes throughout the game.
Controls - 90
This is where EA really listened to their customers. This version is way improved in control of your character. With the new "Analog Putting" control and the revamped analog stick shot control, you'll find yourself so much less frustrated than on the previous version. I've even been able to admit most bad shots were my personal fault this time around. It was hard, but I did it.
Overall - 90
I have absolutely no "buyer's remorse" this time around. It's an amazing feeling. EA is really coming on strong for the PSP lately and I appreciate it. This game and "Burnout Legends" will keep me busy until GTA: LCS comes out and long afterwards as well.
Like Golf? Well, you're going to love this one then. Go buy NOW!!!

Nice review, Im not a big golf watcher as far as TV goes but I have enjoyed the golf games in the past, I may check this one out. Thank god EA isn't totally inept at making sports games. As long as they dont eat all the rights to the sport, their games seem to be pretty good

Have you unlocked the Central Park Course yet? How did you do it? Thanks.
+
WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN COUNTING DOWN THE SECONDS FOR THIS GAME TO COME OUT.
+
Just bought it and gone through the Tutorial, looks good so far. More details as and well.
+
It's still frustrating but it's nice that even in quick play, even when you lose you're still earning money to spend at the pro shop.
+
its one of the best games and it is full length
+
i think it looks great, its got the makings of a classic game

I think ea did a great job on this game except for one major aspect. When I got the game I was excited to see the they put in a power meter for full swings and the new analog putting, but the power meter is not analog at all. Once you pass 50% it skips in intervals of 6% and jumps aroundmaking it impossible to get the distance correct. In tw2005 I was one of the best in the world on xbox live and on psp i one putted every green, but in tw06 on psp i 5 putt from 10 feet hitting it past the hole, short of the hole, off the green 20 feeet pas the hole, ect.... .
it is completely impossible to be consistant in putting because you can not possibly get the power meter to go the exact distance you want, it always jumps an extra 3-7% too hard or too soft as you start the downswing. Also you do not actually read the green or use the grid, you just use the ideal putt cam until it shows that you are lined up correctly, you do not even need to think for a second where you are aimed. Aiming putts= really, really easy getting the power even close to corrrect on putts= completly impossible and very annoying.
the putting made me so mad that i just have stopped playing this game for a while and started playing hot shots again because it actully has a good putting system. i don't want to play a game in which i can putt way better in real life than in the game, come on ea don't rush a game to stores if you know something is wrong with it.

I disagree. I have been playing this game solid for a week and the putting becomes easier after a while, you just need to keep practicing & eventually you will find it easier to judge. I agree that the power guage is not as accurate as it could be but after a week's play the most putts I take on any green is 2. I've also had a 72 foot putt drop in! Couldn't quite believe it but it happened!
This is one of the best games available for the PSP & after playing the cartoonish 'Hot Shots Golf' to death, it's nice to have some realism.

Hey, I love HSG too.
The thing about this game is that its not a cartoonish arcade golf game and it takes time to master.

I think maybe you misunderstood me? I love Hot Shots Golf, it's a fantastic game with excellent ball physics & highly addictive, perfect for the PSP. My point was that after playing HSG since April I am pleased that another excellent golf game has arrived which offers a more realistic experience. Hot Shots Golf is a great game but compare it to Tiger Woods 06 & it looks cartoonish.

actually, my comments were directed at adrifter.
+
lol....soz dude!
+
I agree i like the look of tw06 better, but hot shots has a better physics system especially for putting.
+
Well I've played it pretty solid for a weekend and I have to say, I am a master at this golf thing, I can get the ball in the water or sandpit every time!! and I can hit the ball round all day without losing it down one of those pesky holes. And the higher your score the better right????
