Firstly, the case came with a bundle I purchased, I thought it be a great idea to have a hard case for my PSP, especially after the reports I had heard about how easy the screen was to scratch and mark. I'd seen the soft cases, and going on past experience a hard case was defiantly the way forward.
The retail packaging was a nightmare to open, why on earth do vacuum formed packs have to be heat sealed all the way round! After hunting round for a sharpe enough knife, I put my life at risk and started to cut into the plastic wrapper. Luckily I missed all the vital organs on my body and only managed to surface scratch the dinning room table. I moved the place mat’s around so the wife wouldn't see the new indents on our table. I'll blame the neighbours kids in a few weeks.
For some reason the case came with a nice A1 fold out manual. To cut it short: 1) Open Case. 2) Place PSP inside.
Not sure why it needed diagrams and 20 different languages, but hey whom I to argue. I started learning German and French whilst pretending all was fine when the wife walked in asking why I was sprawled over the table; 'nothing dear, just stretching my back whilst learning German!'. Not sure she fell for it but hey, neighbours kids may come round tomorrow!
The case itself is a clear plastic case with Logitech's logo on the front. Inside there is a semi soft black form padding to keep the PSP in place (more on that later). On the back they have cut a nice circle so the PSP logo on the back of the unit shows through. The corners of the case are missing, I guess so you can click buttons and charge the unit whilst is stays in place. The case makes the unit 3 times as thick and nice and bulky (that's sarcasm) so no sticking it in your shirt pocket.
The open catch is bad, in fact very bad - it decides when you can open the case, a fun game to start with but 20 button presses later you just want to play a game on the unit! A slide catch or similar would have been more useable! It’s really easy to place the PSP into the cut out slot, just as easy for the unit to fall out on the floor.
Open up the case fully and it becomes a stand for the unit. Not sure why to be honest as it’s at the wrong angle to watch a movie! And impossible to play the unit whilst in the case.
As long as you don't mind fighting to open the case, run the risk of your PSP crashing to the floor and have huge pockets this is the case for you!
Don't get me wrong, it’s a fantastic case as a whole and sturdy, there are just some real fundamental things that really need changing with it. It tries to be too many things, a case, a stand and god knows what else, maybe if I read the German manual again it may be clear.
There is no point in the cut out corners to allow access to the buttons, provide us with a sealed case so we can stick in at the bottom of our sports bag. It won’t provide much protection if you drop it either, I have a funny feeling the random catch will decide to open on impact! Open the case when it’s flat on a table to avoid your PSP falling out! And don't use it as a stand as you'll knock it over allowing the PSP to spring into life!
What you really want is a case that's just bigger than the unit, hold the unit in place and , allows complete protection of the unit. I'm really disappointed and glad I didn't spend £20 on it!
Must dash, the wife is heading towards the table!

the latch gets easy to open when you figure out the trick to it. its not hard at all and i have never had my PSP fall out while trying to open it. slide the top portion towards you while using your thumb to push the latch and then simply open it. when you first get it, it may be a little tougher but it gets easier. dropping it will most likely not open the case unless hit at a perfect angle. i dropped mines a few times but found my PSP safely inside without a scratch and or dent. it can be tricky to play the PSP in the case, but i do it comfortably after getting used to the shoulder buttons being a little harder to use. the viewing angle using it as a stand can be somewhat too low, but its not terrible and is functionable. if i could have a perfect case, it would be a slightly slimmer version of the PGP with space for a MSD or two and a strap to hold it in place. for the price you pay, i personally think its a very good, durable, and reliable protective case for the PSP. while there have been other good cases that have come out recently, nothing has been so great for me to retire my PGP, yet . fair review, but i think you should use it more to get used to it first. as long as you're not a complete cluts, i personally feel this is a good case to have.edited: Sep 22 2005

I like the case... I dont understand why you cant play your PSP while it's in the case... Since I got mine, I havent taken it out of it. Also the corners are cut out so you dont have to open it to change songs when listening to music.

Thanks for the comments guys!
I'm going to try and keep using the case, but playing games whilst its in the case is a no-way - may hands aren't the size of giants.
I understand the idea behind the missing corners, just don't think it was deployed that well with the case. Maybe a solid case with a button on the case that clicks the button inside may have been a better idea.
I'll update you in a few weeks, let you know how i get on!
Oh and the neighbours kids are now banned from the dining room - apparently, according the the wife they damaged my table

Bummer for them...

I have been using the PlayGear Pocket for about a week now. I only have two complaints about this case.
1) It's weight. The bulkiness isn't an issue for me, I don't find it to be overly bulky, but it IS bigger than the unit, and rightly so. However, it feels heavy when I use it, and it can be a bit of a strain over prolonged usage.
2) The access holes cut into the left and right side of the case (MS/WiFi and power) have pretty sharp corners, which tend to dig into my hands while playing.
My hands get poked, pierced and sliced with bits of metal all day long, so I am a bit accustomed to this sort of punishment, however, I suspect that the average soft-handed gamer might not find this too appealing.
Overall, I like the case, It feels sturdy, I am confident that if I did manage to somehow spaz out and drop my PSP, it would be safe in this case - and that is why I bought it. I could personally do without all the access ports, and I wish it was just a basic hard case meant to do nothing but keep the PSP safe. But I think the way it is now helps Logitech justify the price of this product.
I bought an Armor SP case for my GBA SP, and I have learned my lesson about how I buy protective cases. The Armor SP case has a thin flimsy metal exterior, lined with cheap soft plastic on the inside, and padded with some crappy foam. I am not confident that such a case would protect my GBA SP if I were to drop it.
Fortunately, I have developed my motor skills far beyond that which a three year old child might posses, and am fully capable of holding/using objects without dropping them. If I were to have a fit of clumsiness though, I am certain that my PlayGear Pocket will keep my PSP perfectly safe.

For some strange reason this review is compelling me to buy a Playgear Pocket.
