Summary
This game is awesome. Dazzling graphics (even my mom liked them), fun gameplay, and addictive (but not unhealthily). This is the racing game to get.

Gameplay - 90
This game is really fun. The menu screen has: World Tour, Single event, Multiplayer, and Driver details. World tour takes you around the map, doing Races, Pursuits, Road Rages, and Face-offs. Then, the other part of the tour is creating chaotic crashes. I could go on and on about all the Stuff. There are 5 car classes, compact, muscle, coupe, sport, and super. The rest is pretty basic.

You are a car, where the objective is to drive aggresively. You get burnout points (which allow you to use a speed boost) by doing stuff live bashing up other cars, driving into oncomig traffic, etc. When you crash, you'll lose part of your speedboost meter, but you'll be able to hold are and choose where to land your car. There is some spectacular car violence in this game (if you're a bad driver, go buy a differnt game).

Technology - 100
The effects look really great on the screen, and you can show it off to DSers because Burnout Legends is coming out for them too (it looks really bad, in terms of graphics). The whole time you're playing, rock music will be pumping out of the speakers, and by good bands, too. The graphics are far superior to PS1, and are pretty close to PS2-quality. I'm not that far, but the AI seems approriate for me, a moderatly skilled racer. In Pursuit Mode, the CPU is pretty smart.

Value - 80
Great game, but $50?! What I Loved is the Road Rage. You get to try to take down as many cars as possible. Enough said! What I really didn't like is the pursuit mode where yyou chase down a guy and try to smash up his car. But it's only a matter of opinion, you may like it. The downfall of this game is that there are lots of other racing games out there for PSP. Seems like an old concept now.

An overwhelming letdown, should've been so much more than just a good game.

One of those titles where people will ignore any flaws they find and deny their existence...

Until EA announce the sequel, and claim to be ironing out those flaws.

Stick with Wipeout.

i rented it from blockbuster the other day and while it is entertaining, i havent had trouble putting it down like others out there. i can honestly say i have more fun playing MC3. now granted i havent beat the game yet or even come close, but so far, its nothing so special for me yet. i had more fun playing the console version because the graphics and crashes look better. its still a fun game and i'll continue to play it so i can try to get a review for it, but i like games to grab you from the start and so far, i havent been grabbed in the slightest.

i like this games but technology doesn't deserve more than 70-80 man it's not so beautiful (ridge racer looks better) there's no blur effect when using turbo, there are gfx bugs etc ..., and it sure can't look better on ds ... don't compare what can't be

If theres no blur effect thats big imo. Thats one of the cool things about the burnout series. Im going to get medievil instead.
And get burnout revenge for the ps2.

There is a significant blur effect, just look at the second picture. This game is PERFECT for showing off the PSP's capabilities, but I thought it got old a bit too quick...all in all it's damn good, and I hate racers.

After playing it, i'm highly doubtful those shots are from the PSP title...and that motion blur is certainly not available.

It's still excellent and am not disappointed at all. The blur is there just lessened. I think EA thought it would just be too much on a handheld. But the fun of Burnout is there. I don't know what you guys are talking about. The over-the-top-crashes, the barely in control feeling, the great music. I am enjoying every minute of it!

it looks good... I think I'll just have to try it for myself!

UPDATE/FOLLOW UP:

I think I'll have to knock a few points off of technology. I was on gaming high mode when I first wrote this. I've been playing it for a while and:

-the game slows while there are four racers on screen
-slight jaggies (jagged diagonal lines where the pixels are visible)
-game pauses for about a second while music is changing

but

-there is very good collision detection (my car flipped backwards after running into a street light bar, where as other games, the car would have gone straight through

I'm still having fun with it, after about 40 hours, which should be a positive indication af some re-play value.
