Summary: "Interesting" but not fun

Bottom line: I am glad to have taken a look at it but did not enjoy the game.

Gameplay: Intriguing but yawn - 50
I picked this up for a month to see if it actually was a good title as I had heard some good things. It is intriguing that it is a card-based FPS but as I came to difficult parts my interest began to wane.

The play model of having everything seperated in blocks was cumbersome and felt like I was playing an early 90s game before there was enough processing power for full 3d. It really took the realness feeling out of the game when I had to literally stand in the block in front of a cracked wall to "realize" it was there and move foreward in my mission. Also it feels a little silly that a guard is really close but cannot see you because he is facing slightly away from you.

Also, though it is frequently the case in a FPS, facing 5 armed guards in a fairly open space the size of a volleyball court and surviving is a joke any way you spin it. Though I do not really count that heavily against the game.

Graphics: Good - 20
Must call it good. Graphics are not what I really call "impressive" like Wipeout with full motion in game video screens etc. The graphics however are presentable and solid, as it seems they are built on the time tested MGS1 engine.

Sound: Nostalgic, pretty good - 10
They give you that metal gear feel, but are not really immersive. That said they do sound like guns etc, and are decent but you could play the game without the sound on and not miss much.

Physics: Excellent - 20
The actual physics of the game engine are great, as you know if you've played MGS1. Characters move and have fluid animations etc and give a visual ambiance to the experience. Though the game is based on what looks like a very old engine, it works because it is so solid, similar to Counter Strike.

Should you buy it? Only if you like card based games, or are a devoted MG fan. Should you rent it? If you're bored like I am with the current PSP library, maybe it's worth it just to see one way a game can be made. But personally I wish I had tried another or done my homework.
