Summary: Geez, It's not that bad!

I've read lots of bad reviews on this game and they all say: SUCKS! But it's not that bad! What we have to remember is: this is a handheld system, people, and the games may not be the best but I think we can bear with when it comes to Death Jr.

Audio/Video
Great. Awesome graphics. There's really nothing to complain about. In fact, these are probably the best on the PSP so far. The music is great. I got the special edition with the soundtrack and I listen to the songs on da PSP all all of de time, maan.

Gameplay
The Not-so-goods: I admit, this is really where DJ sucks, but not too bad. The camera is mainly the problem. In order to see the desired location to "hop" DJ to, you must press L and the camera will snap to the place. No free camera to turn it around, 'cept free look which I rarely use except when aiming. You WILL get used to it. The other problem is his sheath jump; but not a big prob.

The Very-nice-s: I love DJ's control system. Switching between guns, the flame thrower, the C4 Hamsters, the Sword. It's all good. I find it extremely fun. This is a hack n slash and not at all bad for a handheld. You can upgrade with different moves and features and such - me likey. DJ himself is a great little guy to control.

Story
This is where DJ goes ker pooey. The beginning is all there really is and then the action. Barely any comedy at all. I kind of like this. Just hack away for me. On the go, I don't have time for story. I mean, on the gameboy, when was the last time you actually looked forward to a story? (Except for Kingdom Hearts: CoM yay!)

Loading times/Level design
Barely any. Just a small green swoosh and you're there. There are plenty of levels to keep you occupied as well. I for one feel the levels add a great deal of variety.

Overall: PICK IT UP! It's defidentaly worth getting! This is not a bad game! If they had made this for the PS2, yes, it would suck. But this is a handheld, people. And frankly, with all this lack of good games for the PSP, I say this is one of those that you should get. Of course, I haven't finished the game, I just got it yesterday, so if I play this all the way through and I don't like it, I will inform you. I will not end my review on a bad note! IT IS GOOD! GET IT!

Technically speaking, the PSP is comparable to the PS2, for the reasons Surtsey pointed out, you are rendering at smaller resolutions (That's why it is easy to fit movies even on a 256 MB stick). When you drop the resolution, space isn't as big an issue.

On the other hand, the PSP has other technical limits. It doesn't have as an advanced controller as the PS2, it has less overall buttons and suffers from only one analog stick (though even having one is impressive). Developers also have to deccide if they want to make it a small-console game, or a portable game (short stages, quick saves, and the like). If they make it portable, it has to take into account battery life.

A handheld with this much power is certainly a new thing for developers to deal with, it's very different than past handhelds. The same goes for the DS, people haven't dealt with technology like that before. It's going to take time for killer titles to come out on EITHER system (With the occasional visionary game like Lumines). Regardless, that doesn't mean we have to encourage the crap games by saying "it's the best we got so far". If the game is good, it is good. If it is bad, it is bad. The volume of the library can't change how good the games that currently exist are.

It's like saying The Bouncer for the PS2 was anything better than a tech demo, since it's all Square had on the PS2 at the time.

i agree with hime. i played the Training, and advanced training, and umm.. i have to say. the enimes are stupid. no AI What-so-ever. If you hit the buttons enough, you killed the enimies. however the C4 hamsters are bit more fun. HEHE just what we need to do with gay men, strap c4 to a hamster's back.... ARMAGEDDON! sorry couldnt help myself...

Also, something I did neglect to mention was the fact that while the PSP's processor is technically superior to the PS2's, current game development libraries max the clock rate at 222MHz and the bus clock at 111MHz. This is simply because if you ran it at 333MHz all the time you'd end up getting about 20 minutes to each battery charge.

It's suggested that Sony will be releasing new batteries in the near future that will handle the load, increase playtime, etc.

Point still stands though, and I honestly believe you'll see a new assortment of titles on the PSP that will be considered on par with current generation consoles technologically. Developers still haven't reached the depths of what this little thing can do - they've not even come close.

Actually, Death Jr. is not so bad once you get used to it. I mean it's pretty entertaining. I will write a full, dtailed review shortly after I beat the game.
