No stranger to the accessories market, Mad Catz enters again with an interesting hybrid called the Stealth Case. It's one part PSP case, one part screen protector, holds two Memory Sticks and is also capable of being used as a stand.
Made of anodized aluminum with a light rubberized interior, the case is no slouch when it comes to giving you the peace of mind you'll need to toss this in your bag. However, being aluminum, it is noticeably heavier than other cases with a similar form factor, but it is quite thing. It doesn't feel quite as heavy as the Logitech Playgear Pocket.
There are about 3-4 parts of this case. The top lid holds the two Memory Sticks, the bottom holds the PSP, and in between those two pieces is a clear piece of removable plastic that protects your screen. It is very easy to remove and put back on and should do a great job of giving your PSP extra protection. Finally, when you want to prop the PSP, you simply open the UMD door portion of the case and flip open a little stand and voila, you have a mini theater. All ports and shoulder buttons are uncovered, including the Open switch, allowing you to permanently have your PSP encased and protected.
The styling is great, smooth black exterior with thin padded interior. Sliding the PSP and the Memory Sticks in and out is quite easy, and the Memory Stick holders have a unique no-lock design. You simply slide the sticks in and the fit is perfectly tight without making you feel like they're going to be damaged by sliding them in and out.
There isn't really much room to be dissapointed, but there is room for improvement. First of all, the top exterior portion of the case is strangely raised, increasing the overall thickness of the case. This could be to protect the PSP in the even that the case gets crushed, but it looks more like an unecessary design element. It may seem like a small thing, but for those who like to carry their PSP in their pockets, it could mean the difference comfort and discomfort. Also, we're not really sure about the usefulness of the inner screen protector. You would assume that the case itself would do the job of protecting the screen, we're not sure if there's a need to add a plastic screen protector. Some of you will in fact enjoy the added security and see it as a useful feature. Fortunately, for those who don't, it's removable so you have the option of not taking it with.
Overall the Mad Catz Stealth Case is going to make a lot of people happy with its sturdy material and well thought-out protective elements. Couple that with the $20 price tag and you have an absolute deal. If you're looking for something a little lighter than the Playgear Pocket with the added bonus of holding extra Memory Sticks, this might be for you.

Same protection at the same price. Plus this stores Memory sticks (which is a useful feature, not an aesthetic one).

Great case...I was going to get it for a loved one, but they don't want a free stealth case.

Hay now, I'm sure that said loved one has a very good reason for not wanting a free stealth case.

Captain; is there any danger of the memory cards/storage section scratching the screen (when closed) if the plastic screen protector is not used? It looks too cheap, but if the sticks/frame touches the screen without it, I'm not going to bother with this case. Back to the Boxwave Armor I was raving about...edited: Aug 22 2005

No danger of the memory cards scratching the screen. The plastic screen protector is polycarbonate and about 1/8" thick. The memory cards sit flush within the lid. Without the screen protector in place you have a little more than 1/8" clearance between the memory cards and the screen itself.

This case looks really nice but... Aluminum.... is actually really bendable or how should i say its a very non dense alloy. Well then again it depends on the grade of aluminum. If you drop the case guranteed your going to get a dent. After a while your going to be carrying an ugly case. And the Pop up movie stand looks cool but it looks so brittle. Over all I'd still buy it.

Yeah but i think that memory stick holders are not that great because really when are you ever carrying more than one in your psp just get a 512 or a 1 GB i mean really. but the case looks cool still so i think i will still buy it.

So would anyone be interested in custom made aluminum badges to cover the offending logo or any other logo for that matter ? Currently awaiting final pricing from my supplier.

this case isn't bulky at all i just saw one of these and compared it to my pgp. This case is much smaller and is made of metal( ? ) . The protection seems the same but with the pgp you can put different inlays, but with the stealth you can store 2 mem sticks and come with a removable screen protector.

I purchased this case at Target, and let me add a few comments.
The inner screen protector is necessary, if you want to use the sholder buttons without restriction. If you take the screen protector off, the case pretty much blocks access to those buttons. You can still do it, but not without some difficulty and discomfort.
The hinge on the Stealth Case has no stiffness at all, and therefore can't be set to custom angles like how the PGP can be set at a 90 degree angle to act as a sunshade.
Although this is probably the best case you can buy at retail, I will probably return this and go for the Capdase Luxury instead.
