| Summary: ATV is a game I didn't think I would like, but I do.

I'm the proud owner of a PSP and my 4 year old son loves this fact because he knows that I will let him play on it as a reward for performing chores around the house. I originally bought World Tour Soccer and he likes it, as I do; however, when I told him that he could pick the next game, he immediately requested ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin Trails. I scratched my head and wondered if he could rethink his choice. Hours later after my son went to bed, I ended up playing way longer than I expected. This game is pure fun!
There are several ways you can ride your ATV. As a single player, you can train on how to drive your 4-wheeler and perform stunts while flying through the air, race in a single event to make and break records and earn points, make your way up the ranks through Championship mode, or create your own Enduro Waypoint racetrack.
Multiplayer mode allows you to compete online with other ATV riders - through the internet (free with membership) or with others in Ad Hoc mode. As you place in these races, you earn points and trading cards (to unlock new characters, ATV's and Rider Gear). You can also keep track of your high scores as it compares to other racers. You can chat with other users, but typing is tedious (letter by letter, instead of the PSP's method which isn't that exciting but I heard a keyboard attachment is in the works). I wish there was more involvement with other racers to make it even more personable, but there is nothing else to do other than race each other.
It took a little getting used to how the controller manuevers the 4-wheeler. There are so many stunt combinations that you can perform that it's hard to keep track. Of course, during game progression, you begin to realize that it becomes more instinctive. Stunt combinations and how long you can hold them in the air will mean more points earned. If you don't complete the stunt combos by the time you hit the ground, you will pay dearly! Practice makes perfect.
Graphics are awesome and gameplay follows the laws of physics most of the time. The rider (which can be a man or woman) looks like a Crash Test Dummy when he falls. Not that I want to see blood and guts (I can get that elsewhere) but if the rider falls off his ATV or gets thrown off, I'd love to see the dirt kick up and his clothes tear, perhaps even see his (or her) helmet fling off his head. You know, add a little final touch of realism where it needed it. There is a neat spill where the rider grabs his knee in agony.
The scenery is well done and moves well with the rider. You start off with just a couple of race tracks but can unlock more as you get better and place in various races. You can ride in a huge dirt pit in the middle of the city or through the desert dunes or through an abandoned industrial plant (at least those were the ones I've managed to unlock so far). On some tracks, you can even see the audiences faces cheer you on as you zoom past them. I even managed to ride alongside a freight train that was running beside the track. Nice touches.
Now the audio portion of this game is limited. I mean, you can only listen to the buzzing sound of an ATV for so long. ATV Offroad Fury includes 36 music tracks of intense music that well supplements the racing experience. Artists such as Joan Jett, Good Charlotte, Less Than Jake, and Slipknot have contributed some well themed songs to make the whole racing experience entertaining. There is a jukebox included in this game if you want to hear the selected songs (which are great to listen to through headphones). There is also a scan button that will check your memory stick's music folder and add any additional music to the jukebox. This is a cool feature that will allow you to enjoy your own tracks while you make tracks! There is also a movies section that will allow you to replay the intro movie that play when you launch the game. There are other videos that are currently locked, perhaps a cheat code (which you can enter in another part of the menu) or another achievement will allow me to see the rest. It looks promising!
You can custom design your ATV and uniform with various stickers, colors, and accessories. When you earn enough credits, you can upgrade your ATV with better tires, shocks, or just get a new one altogether. I've earned (unlocked) two ATV's so far.
Overall, this game made me really appreciate the potential of not just this game but what the PSP can really do when game programmers utilize all the multimedia features of this game console.
ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin Trails earns my respect and I regret not agreeing with my son that this game is really cool. There is so much more to this game that I haven't even mentioned. It's definitely worth renting to get a good taste off the ATV action. Don't blame me if you get hooked!

GREAT REVIEW!!! I was gonna review this game but when I first got it upon release, but Im not very good at reviewing so I didnt. No one seemed to show much interest in this game but it is an incredible psp game. I agree with dimplemonkey about everything in his review, the audio is as incredible as the physics replicate real life motion(its almost perfect). Its really fun and LONG I havent beat it yet but I dont play it everyday it also gets very challenging. Online is great but lacking in players now, before there were always at least 6 servers running. But if you dont have a wireless network it still is great fun in all the single player modes against better than average A.I. Everyone should buy/rent at least play this game because it suits every age group. The game is one of the older released psp game but still has graphics to compete with all the new ones. Anyways GET THIS GAME!!!
