This was the first accessory I purchased for my PSP on US release day. Investing hundreds of dollars into my new toy, I wanted something to protect it.

I thought the Pelican Face Armor looked like a good investment. The device is basically a flip up shield that protects the top of the PSP. It attaches on the top and fits into the screw holes. While on, it still allows access to the UMD door but covers up the USB port, so you cant sync the PSP while on. It makes it a bit more bulky than the PSP alone, and while it can still fit into the soft pouch that came with the PSP, it is a pretty tight fit, having to coax the PSP into the pouch.

The Face Armor flips up allowing clear view of the PSP screen and then flips down to protect the device. There is some padding on the bottom of the Face Armor to keep the plastic from touching the PSP screen. It does a good job of protecting the PSP's screen, but would not do anything in respects to total protection. The PSP is still completely unprotected from falls or angry animals.

I had an issue where the left screw on the Face Armor did not fit into the PSP after a week or so. I had to exchange my PSP for other reasons and it fit into the new one, but after a month or so it felt loose and could be pulled out if I really wanted to. Talking to employees of my local store, they said that this is a problem inherent to the Face Armor.

The shield itself flips open but cannot be used as a sun visor to play in bright outdoor light. It doesn't flip around to prop the PSP up for movies. Realistically it doesn't do anything to protect the PSP other than protecting its face while it's not in use.

The pelican face armor comes with 4 UMD cases. These clip over the backs of the UMDs and keep anything from getting into the hole. The downside is that they don't fit in the UMD case. So you can use the original UMD case or these. I personally don't use them, wanting my games to be better protected in their original cases.

In summary: There are better accessories out there that do everything this does and more.
