Summary: Still Metal Gear, Still Good

Undoubtedly, the badly written manual, and the badly worded in-game instructions to the new features leave a lot to be desired. The best advice I can give is to look at a faq from link, learn how to play the game properly then have a ball.

This game has a great plot that's well worth seeing through to the end. Once you're over that learning curve everything is gravy. Once I got used to the annoying large type which meant I had to press the O button forever and a day to get through cutscenes, I enjoyed the story immensely. As the vast majority of cutscenes are after a mission has been completed, the game has a nice pacing with a set of rewards at the end of each mission: more cards, more points to buy packs or single cards, and more storyline.

There are some technical issues I had with the game. First was the slowdown on some of the game's camera pans and explosions. Since this isn't an action game, rendering all kinds of detail while calculating movement, button presses and effects of various actions, I felt that the slowdown showed a lack of optimization of the engine.

In terms of gameplay, when you're in control of two characters and one of them is no longer of any use to you (say they're at the end of the mission waiting on the other to catch up), it's extremely sluggish having to constantly end the useless character's turn. I would suggest allowing a free movement mode once all enemies are defeated for MGA2.

The music in the game seems a bit monotonous but it's actually paced very well. Once you're closer to the endgame, new themes appear to showcase a new level of tension.

Playability: 8
Load Times: 8
Graphics: 7
Sound: 6
Music: 8

To Summarize: If you're a Metal Gear fan that can stand to learn a tactical turn-based card game to enjoy a new story with plenty of opportunity for action, sneaking and seeing memorabilia of Metal Gears of yore, this is one to get.
