This is a sidescrolling shooter, and it's better than I thought it would be. You can pick from four characters initially, with two unlockables. You have three attacks, regular shot, burst shot, and bomb attack. Each character has different attributes. I didn't figure it out right away, but you move much faster when you aren't shooting, so there is an actual incentive to not fire constantly, especially since this game throws tons and tons of bullets at you in boss fights.
You'll spend maybe a third of your time in this game dodging a frenzy of bullets. They're very easy to see as they are a bright pink or blue. My only complaint is that your hit box isn't the same as the sprite so bullets can hit the edge of the sprites and you'll be okay.
The game has infinite continues as far as I can tell, and you continue from where you die, not at the beginning of the stage.
Graphics are pretty nice. 2D sprites over 3D scrolling and revolving backgrounds. My only complaint is that some stage backgrounds actually cause some slowdown. Audio is nice, all dialoague is spoken, music is forgettable but not annoying.
This game has more depth and bullet dodging than Star Soldier. But the Japanese anime and cultural designs (basically you're flying super monks and priestesses throwing antidemon wards) may be a putoff for some people. Still I think it's a great game.

Well, it could be worse. It could be the Cho-Aniki series, which for the PS2, is a good shooter and funny as hell, but not for homophobes.

I'll have to look into that. I'm always interested in offbeat Japanese games.

I found this game used in NY for 16 dollars. I love shooters they're perfect for portable gaming so I'm gonna pick it up.
