If you've played the console version of this game, you'll know mostly what's in store. The PSP version has the sprawling maps with numerous race types, loads of loot to be won and an incredible assortment of tuner modifications that can be made. As you've surely read by now, the games obscenely long loading times can be unbearable. Most of your time with Midnight Club 3: DE will be spent waiting for it to load, rather than playing. If you're not dedicated enough, chances are you'll be seriously unhappy.

The gameplay is identical to the console versions. You start out with a waffly car and slowly work your way up to better and badder wheels. This is accomplished by challenging racers in a variety of race types. Some of the races are just one lap, while others require you to do a number of laps. When you challenge an in-game character, you will be required to be the leading point scorer after a number of races. The variety of races is enough to keep the basic gameplay, which is racing, from getting old. Some of the harder races even award you with a vehicle after winning. You can choose to sell the car or beef it up, either way, winning vehicles breaks the game up very well by giving you a boost and change of pace. And in the event that you get frustrated with a certain level or simply become bored with the racing, you can spend your time in the garage, tuning up your wheels.

The assortment of tune-up options is truly dizzying. Rims, a wide variety of wheel options, spoilers, body kits, decals, the list goes on. Add to this the fact that you can win and purchase motorcycles and a wide variety of cars, and you might be surprised at how much time you could spend in the garage. One of the best features in the game is the ability to simply let the game choose the best optimizations for your car. Unlike Need For Speed which forces you to get a mechanics license, MC3 makes your life easy so that you can focus on gaming.

Unfortunately, the fun is seriously hindered by the loading times. If you love racing and you love MC3, then you'll probably put up with it. But if you're not that dedicated, then 30+ second loads will be too much. And quite frankly, it is too much. Qualities like take you out of the game, which is a big minus. When you think about street racing and are pumped about your newly tuned-up car, there's no better way to lose that excitement than to have to watch a loading screen for 30 seconds. It's enough to make us suggest that you don't buy the game. And if that wasn't enough, the other biggest drawback was the lack of speed. Whereas in the console version you feel like you're in outer space with everything whizzing by at 200mph, the PSP game feels like you're on a tricycle going 45. Things feel slow and heavy. This might improve after time, but it's another thing that quickly took us out of the game.

Overall, the port of Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition has great features and fun gameplay, but it's seriously hindered by pointlessly slow loading times. Only for the die-hards.

Only for the die hards my bottom. This game rocks and I'm not even a big racing game fan. The loading times can get on your nerves a bit stated.

I love it also... The load times do indeed suck. However, I think the game is good enough that I dont mind waiting. I mean I do. I want to pull my hair out waiting for the next race. I like to watch my TV and watch shows while it loads and race during commercials.

I love how you can mod your car. You dont need to know anything about performance parts, just take the next level. The visual components dont do anything to performance, so you can make your car look as crazy as you want.

The loading is a bitch, but it does give you time to do other things.
