Summary: Did the hype live up?

This review is a bit late, but mostly because I've been delving into the game itself rather than taking time to write about it. The game itself isn't too bad - great graphics, short load times, nice sounds - but it does fall short in a few areas. The controls, although very easy for me, are probably much more difficult for other people to master.

The first person I showed the game to had never really played a PSP before, and once he got his hands on it, he was at a loss as to how to move around. Once he figured out that CONTROL TYPE C was the reasonable way to go, he calmed down a bit, but it was still very hard for him to get the hang of it. For me, on the other hand, it was very simple. I can adapt to any control type in an instant, for some reason. But control was still very annoying. I give them kudos for at least making a control scheme that even works for a PSP First Person Shooter, so I won't bash it too hard. The controls WORK, but they take a little getting used to.

The graphics are amazing and they definitely showcase the PSP's capabilities. Being both a DS and PSP fan, I must say that this blows all of DS's games out of the water graphics-wise.

Now for the game's greatest feature: random level generation. It isn't COMPLETELY random, as I'm pretty sure that all item drops from enemies are preset (?) but other than that, the landscape is sure to differ. It's fun to explore, but too much exploring can give you a headache. This game does justice to that statement, by keeping the levels short, but in large doses. Infinity sector? Great idea to finish up your weapon upgrades and continue having fun even when the game is completed.

All in all, Coded arms is a great game. You don't want to miss it. Just get used to the controls, and the game will suck you into a simple storyline that appeals to anyone and a whole bunch of difficult challenges that can make even the best player fail. Even if you don't like FPS games, give this game a try. I mean, I rarely ever play FPS games, and I love this game. The hype lived up, in a way.

great review i too found the cointrols easy to adjust to but not for others. i like the defalut control scheme, dunno why...the amount of weapons, upgrades, and strategies against different bosses and creature types really kept me going.
