I am not a racing game fan at heart, yet for some reason MC2 and MC3 appeal to me greatly. I rented this game for XBOX and was instantly in awe. When I saw the commerical for it saying it's coming to PSP it made me want the system even more. I got the game about a week ago and have yet to beat it 100% (currently at 63% or so).

The game is long and is amazing to look at, there is nothing like going 250 MPH down a city street with NO slow down and cars and buildings whizing past you to all of a sudden hit a ramp and go flying 1/2 a mile to land and lose control because you're going wayyyyy too fast

Races can sometimes take more than 30 minutes to win because not only do you compete with fellow racers, but the enviroment at large, which includes buildings and normal drivers, so it requires some skill and finess. The controls are 100% customizable to fit your personal taste. There are also many songs on this game some of which are really great; my personal favorites are Pain by Jimmy Eat World, The Hand that Feeds by Nine Inch Nails, Stories With Unhappy Endings by Hundred Reasons, and A Modern Way Of Letting Go by Idlewild.

The only things the game would need is better load times (but come on people it's a beautiful game so it takes time, kids today), infrastructure (this game would be so amazing with online), and sometimes less cheesy AI.

Let me elaborate on the AI, you can be going along 10 seconds ahead of the pack and out of no where a semi blows in the side of you and pins you against a building, there goes your lead as you are now probably close to last place now.

If you like racing games at all I have no hesitation in saying this is a BUY.

Good review, I agree totally and I am only at 19% now into the game. There is so much to do, and I haven't even left San Diego yet!

This is a "Must Buy" in my opinion!

I didn't realize the soundtrack was so kick ass. I thougth it was gonna be all hiphop music. Jimmy Eat World and Trent Reznor I could definitely cruise to.

So is it basically linear in story? Move from race to race aquiring money and improving your vehicles? Or is there like a "free play" free roam mode? Is this like one of those roll up on another driver and flash your lights to race thing? What games was that... lol

It is definaltly free roam. There are dozens of races, tornaments, side races, car class specific races, and then normal opponents you nead to beat as well. Yeah you roll up to the normal opponents and flash ur lights, but if you want you can just drive around the city for an hr or 2 if you wanted to with no loading (only starting a race, going to the garage, or changing cities causes a load).

There are also 12 hidden RS icons to find so roaming the city is almost a must to find these. I have only located 8 so far in San Diego and I'm dying to know what "prize" you get when you find all 12.

Take a look at Gamefaqs.com and look at the console version FAQs (the game is pretty much a direct port). It will tell you the locations of all the icons, as far as I remember the icons unlock decals and I think license plates or something (I haven't looked recently).

Cool, thanks! I'm having a hard time finding the last few but don't want to give up.

I will check out the website.

Great game but the menu system and the load times are crap. Rockstar should have tweaked it a little more for the PSP. It's to o much like the PS2 version and it slows down on the PSP. Still tons o' fun though.

i'd go so far to say 1 min to even 1 min half lol. well thats what it feels like anyways lol. seriously though, the graphics and all the cars and driving free roam through the cities make it worth it. i'm enjoying this game a lot so far but i wont review it until i come a little closer to completing it. loading times are the worst i've seen on PSP yet, but this game has also some of the best stuff i've seen on PSP as well.
