I was pre-order number1at my local Electronics Boutique, since last December, so I have been waiting for this. It's simply amazing for a handheld device, and is leaps beyond anything so far put out. The very first thing that everyone will notice once on, is it's screen. The screen is really incredible, and until you actually have one in your hands, all the pictures you have seen can't really convey how nice, clear, crisp, and big it is. The colour saturation, contrast, are all very nice.

The very next thing one will notice after fiddling with it for a little bit, is that the PSP is a dust, and fingerprint magnet. Want to make sure that last bit of dust is out of your clean room, bring the PSP in. This is of course due to the fact that the unit is finished in a high gloss black finish, which is muy sexy, but will show those fingerprints.

Graphically... it is just about PS2 graphics, and in a couple of the launch titles, actually cleaner than the PS2 versions of the same game. For Movies, we watched Spiderman 2 which came with it, and there wasn't any noticable ghosting.

As an mp3 player, it needs some help. It is quite functional and the sound is good. However, they need to release a firmware update to address the cumbersome file system it uses. Still, a nice feature to have none the less, even with the current file system. (Remember this is a games first machine)

It also serves nicely as a photo viewer. You can set it up to do a slideshow, you can zoom in and out, you can pan all around the picture, etc.

So to sum this up, we are very, very happy with ours. Just hopeful that they will release a firmware update in the future (I am confident they will) to address such things as the aforementioned file system. It would also be nice to be able to set any picture, or colour you like as your main background. (Currently it changes colour depending on which month it is)

Bottom line: It is one nice piece of portable hardware.
